I normally don't write reviews but felt compelled after receiving this book. I am a professional voice talent and do my own audio editing/mastering. I am comfortable around eq and compression working with it every day. When I read the description and reviews on this book I thought there would be some great eq and compression insights to learn...I was shocked when I got this pamphlet...its really not even a book. What you will get on eq is several pages that describe what EQ is and several concepts. You WILL NOT get any details on how to actually EQ. So if you are buying this to get better at using eq you will be very disappointed...again you will only get several pages of brief concepts and definitions. Compression section offers a little more instruction but again it's mostly definitions that can quickly looked up on Google. I am not kidding I went through the whole pamphlet in about 15 minutes. If you really want to learn how to apply eq and compression save your money...if you want 15 min read and some definitions get this pamphlet. I can't believe the reviews are so high on this...its unreal.

Great read! I've self taught myself over the last ten years and just recently bumped into a professional audio engineer who gave me lots of tips and tricks that were all parallel to everything you touch on. One thing you completely nailed, the "automatic volume fader" lol the amount of times you used that name at and around page 30/33 had me both laughing and smiling at the same time. It makes sense, it works, especially for something that everyone seems to lable as "the most important thing, ever". Those who have given this a bad review, must have been expecting a degree in audio engineering for 11 bucks lol. I found this very useful, especially the rule of 300, using a notepad, the front/back method and slingshoting. Thank you N.N.

Decent read for the very beginning stages of live or recording audio engineers. (I’m a live guy). Compression can be a little cryptic, using it effectively with an eq a little more so. It leans a little more toward the recording aspect. Completely neglects the fact that a quality eq and compressor (outboard or plugin) will have a characteristic that effects different signal paths with a signal coloring. (Yes a compressor is an automatic fader, but not only that) But that’s for another book maybe. Would recommend for people in about the first year of learning, otherwise it doesn’t really contain any earthshaking industry secrets.

Teaches you how to EQ your instrument's in a way that is simple, structured, clear, concise and, best of all, macroscopic! The broad strokes approach is great because you can actually hear and understand what you are doing. I don't really know what I'm doing when I try to find harsh frequencies by sweeping with a narrow band. It seems every frequency sounds irratating in isolation. But when you use Q = 1 and a generous gain/decrease, you always know if the change you applied was for better or for worse. And his 4-Zone-Mix-Theory is also something awesome, cause it limits the amount of time you waste experimenting with processing by focusing your attention into only 4 important regions of the frequency spectrum.

The information is decent, but the presentation needs work. Several typos and bad editing here and there. Lots of blank or near blank pages, which I found pretty annoying. What am I paying for here?It seems obvious this was intended as a Kindle or PDF reference that someone turned into a "book". As a focused reference for a class or workbook for an assignment, it might be OK, but there are much better references out there.

An incredible book, giving some hard and fast tips about getting your mixes to sound better with these two very important concepts in audio engineering. Great reference.

Quick read....clearly written....breaks it down into easy to understand terms. I wish I would have had this info a long time ago. Highly recommended....especially if you're fairly new to mixing. To Nathan....please make all of your books in print form.....it looked like the new one is just a Kindle book.

After what seemed to be the complex task of understanding the relationship between EQ and Compression, this book has given me the knowledge and self-confidence that I've always wanted to have as a developing audio engineer and producer. Along with this book, I have read the author's others as well, including "The 3 Space Reverb Framework" and "The Bus Compression Masterclass". With this wealth of information given to me so simply, I can confidently say that this book, along with the others, has been the single greatest investment into my skills as an audio engineer.

I have been like this for a very long time and it is maddening and just plain torturous. At age 43, I am clinically obese. I have hated myself, condemned myself, and treated myself with such anger and viciousness over the years it is truly saddening. I have exhausted myself attempting to climb out of this hole thousands of times, only to slip farther into darkness and deeper into food addiction and what has started to become a severe binge eating disorder. Hopeless? Yes, you could say that. Overly dramatic? Perhaps. I am sure anyone who has ever attempted getting over an addiction can relate. Feeling powerless and at the mercy of food tears you apart from the inside, little by little. I used to be filled with confidence and strength. Where did that guy go?After my binge last week, I recognized that things had gotten exponentially out of control over the past 6 months. My health was deteriorating, but I still couldn’t stick with any plan no matter what I tried. No matter what leverage I attempted to apply to my efforts to give me more will power and strength just served to offer up more ammunition to thoroughly pummel myself once I failed. That night though, uncharacteristically, I treated myself with pity, even a bit of love. I said “I need to keep working. I need to keep searching for answers. Now.”That moment I went on Amazon, still in my post-binge haze, and ordered two books. The first I read in a day and left me with no lasting impressions - More hugging my inner child with little to no applicable wisdom to help. I then began reading “Never Binge Again”. Within 3 pages I knew something was different.This book "is" different. It "is" unorthodox…And it is exactly, and I mean exactly what I needed. For the last 35 years I have been torturing the wrong person. I have been slaughtering myself when what I needed to do was slaughter the pig that lives within me. The author divides the binge eater’s mind into two parts, the thin, healthy self and also the fat, unhealthy self: The Pig. The differentiation is magic… the clear line of demarcation…pure magic. My entire perception has changed with regards to food. You need to read this book, cover to cover, and absorb what is there and do what the author says.Make your food plan - and make it airtight. Anyone who is a professional dieter like me should be able to do this almost instantaneously. I put it on a big piece of paper and sectioned it off. As I made it, I realized something… I was hopeful. Excited. Now that’s a change.I know what you’re saying. Sure it’s early, it’s only been about ten days for me, but I’m used to dieting and being obsessed with what I am going to eat from meal to meal…absolutely obsessed! The energy that takes is staggering…then I would just implode. That is different now. I don’t feel that at all. Sure I think about it, but not the same way. That is why I am writing this and will follow up with some updates for this review in a few weeks.Tip #1 - The first few days I felt “uncomfortable” as the author speaks about. It was good to be prepared for that. It passed but there is a plan to fight any cravings you might have as you go along.Tip #2 - The author pays homage to Jack Trimpey who created the original concept that “Never Binge Again” is semi based on. It is named “Rational Recovery” and is an alternative to AA. In those first couple of days, when I was feeling uncomfortable, I visited the RR website to learn more. Great idea. I went through the “Crash Course” on what they term AVRT and it seemed to really clarify some concepts for me.They are two very different animals in complexity but share the same core principle.Tip #3 - If, after reading this book, you feel that this strategy will possibly work for you I suggest re-reading a lot of sections over the first week or so just to keep it fresh in your mind. That combined with going to the RR website and to the author’s website have been very helpful. I listened to a few of the author’s mp3’s to clarify my understanding of the concepts.If you have tried everything then I highly recommend this book. It is everything that the rest are not.I could not disagree more with the 1 star reviews I’ve read. I say this seriously, if they are binge eaters or food addicts, it is their loss. I first totally dismissed this book when I first heard about it - think I heard Dr. Livingston on a podcast. Then a few more months of failure to keep to my best laid plans piled up. A seed had been planted though. I gave the podcasts and his ideas another shot. I thought no way. And then I thought, what do I have to lose? What is the alternative? Diabetes? Dementia? I’m doing it. I don’t tell anybody about it, but it’s working. For the first time in a long time, I haven’t had sweets in weeks. I can’t believe it. I’m so pissed off at my pig, now sweets actually piss me off. Pissed off that I wasted so many years. Listen, give this a shot. Give it a serious look. I finally figured out that I can’t do all those neat low carb plans until I get this nasty boar under control. This is working! Do it!

I just finished the book. I started my weight loss journey in late February 2016. I was highly successful and lost nearly 90 pounds by mid December. But in between that time, I've had some really nasty binges. around Thanksgiving 2016 I started bingeing so much, I ultimately stopped counting calories and just let myself (the pig) go all out of all the junk I could find. I was desperate to find a solution. I ran to my doctor telling her I'm out of control and wanted to see if she could prescribe me something to get rid of these massive cravings. she told me they did offer medicines, but only to those who are severely obese and that it was simply not an option for me. She Did refer me to a nutritionist, but I was just so defeated I did not bother going. I was browsing online forums and came across a reddit post that eventually led me to the discover of this book. I had just binged 3 days in a row and began reading it in the Kindle app. The idea that there is an inner voice in me constantly tempting me to Eat junk really helped me separate my own thought from "pig squeal" and made it that much easier to recognize the two. From the moment I started reading, I haven't binged since. I am now back on track and can honestly say this book is what set me back on course. really great read and the added bonuses are super helpful.

I got a few pages in and threw it away. I am all about loving yourself and respecting yourself. This book is the opposite. He kept talking about appetite calling it the inner piggie, or something. It’s so rude. And it got to the point where he said -If you don’t like how I am talking and it’sMaking you mad -Put the book down.So I did, right in the trash. Just a reminder - loveYourself radically. Be kind to yourself.

Disappointing. I haven't even been able to finish it. I don't know how calling my inner voice (the one that encourages me to eat unhealthy) Pig doesn't translate into negative self talk. This is the dumbest book I've ever read. I was open to the idea but it just doesn't seem healthy and it didn't work for me. I have enough negative self talk. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone trying to make lifestyle changes.

Honesty, this book actually made me want to eat more! It's silly and not scientific at all. Told me nothing about why I binge eat and really did not tell me how to stop except to tame my "inner pig" which made me feel like a child and a loser.

I lost 50 pounds when I started eating a whole-food, plant-based diet, but I struggled with the final 10-15 pounds—until I started using the concepts in this book. The final pounds melted away, mostly because I made two simple rules: (1) eat only whole, plant-based food and (2) never eat between meals. I am now 10 pounds below my high school weight, 20 pounds below my marriage weight, and 70 pounds below my all-time high.

I was a senior in high school and in the crowd when this happened. I later went on to march in the 110 and I can say without a doubt that those were some of the best days of my life! This story does a great job describing the events that took place that day. I now know most of the OU people interviewed and I must say I would have done the same thing as either a student or alumni.

I bought this as a little Saint Patick's Day gift for my 7 year-old grandson. He loved it and read it in one sitting, about 40 minutes. I am planning to buy more of this series.

As a second grade teacher I bought multiple copies to use for guided reading. The kids loved this story and I bought January Jokers, too. They also love the A-Z Mysteries by Ron Roy. I saw a great leap in reading scores as they were so enthralled with these books.

I was happy to find this new series for my students who like the A to Z Mysteries. The books are the perfect length for students who are just stepping into chapter books, and the content keeps them interested. I will definitely be buying more.

I purchased the first 4 books in this mystery series for my 7 year old granddaughter. She likes them.I will continue purchasing the rest of the series for her.

My husband and I read these stories to my daughter at bedtime. The kids solve mysteries and use critical thinking skills to solve problems.

This book is good because when it looks like the leprechauns were stolen by Lucky but then the kids found them in a closet in the police station. I think this book is a good book for March. I recommend this book to anybody who has read most of the books in the series.

If you're looking to learn the ins and outs of mosaic making, if you're looking to glue shards of tesserae to boards and lamps and things, this isn't the book for you.If, on the other hand, you simply love the "look" of mosaics, this book will teach you how to recreate it using beads, bottle caps, dice, and everything else listed in the subtitle. Though many of the projects are attractive (like the "Luxurious Journal," made of velvet squares), many are also a little tacky (like a clock made of beans).A few of the projects involve creating mosaics with actual glass and tile tesserae, but these are generally quickies-for beginners. And although the gallery in the back of the book contains a few terrific pieces, almost all of them are in dozens of other books on mosaic.It's a nice book for your mosaics library, but it's less than essential.

I chose this book because Kristen Hannah blew my freaking MIND in The Nightingale. That book had me crying and laughing and swooning and just made my life.Home Front was so completely different, I don't even believe that it's the same author. It was SO predictable...and that's coming from someone who loves Dan Brown. There was lots of dead-horse-beating and a very unrealistic stigma throughout the whole book. I KNOW I can't speak for everyone, but I refuse to believe that in this day and age, a child would be ashamed of their mother in the military. Not a spoiler, just a very common thread of the book and I was totally over it after it was mentioned the first ten times. I think the story had potential, and I will not lie - I did cry. It struck some heartstrings in there but by no means was I knocked off my feet like in The Nightingale.The story wasn't awful, but I genuinely would not recommend. It will work for some people and it will really resonate with some people, but in general, as a 25 year old female who's partner is an OIF veteran, I just couldn't get on board with some of the characters' ignorance and it just felt really forced. I really just finished it because I have a hard time abandoning half-read books - which I'm glad I did because the ending is not disappointing.So far Kristin Hannah is 50:50 with me and eventually I'll try another book and hopefully love it as much as The Nightingale!!!

It's been a while since I started reading a book I just did not want to put down. The last was probably The Nightingale. The story sucked me in, and I just wanted to read until the last page. I felt very important issues were touched on in this book. That said, I cannot believe I liked a book so much and at the same time, disliked so many characters. The husband was a jerk through more than half of the book. The (almost) teenage daughter was a total brat. And the main character was very unrealistic in her life views for half the book. But.....I suppose those elements are what made the story so good.A few things bothered me....I would love to know the answers to all these, not that I ever will.First, what did they do with the kids once weekend a month and 2 weeks each summer? The kids and husband acted like the mom never spent 5 minutes away from any of them.Secondly, when she started drinking wine every day, why didn't the husband just get rid of it all? It's not like she was going to get to the store to buy more!And third, why did it take so long for the husband to get her the help that she needed? You don't have to be Freud to know she needed help badly.I would definitely recommend this book to friends.

I was excited to read this book following Nightinangle by the same author. Especially since I am married to a career soldier who served 30+ years. I have been around everything you can imagine to include watching our wounded soldiers come from the battle field in Landstuhl Germany. We have friends missing both hands and legs, parts of an arm or even part of their face. We know many who truly have PTSD and battle it daily. This book left me saying this is complete BS and half way through I struggled to even want to finish. And through all my years of life within the military I have never seen anyone have this lack of support for their soldier. Ms Hannah has no military experiences and sought help from people who served but I am surprised they could have led her to this direction of what military life is like. Through the entire book I kept saying to myself....this author is completely writing out of her knowledge and experience and there is a clear disconnect. And it is clear she has agenda to bash military life and not paint it in the positive that it can be. I do not plan to recommend this book nor share my book. It is going into the trash.

Wow. This book just blew me away. As a mother and former soldier in the Army Reserve, married to an Infantry solider who deployed to Afghanistan, this story hit close to home. The passion for the job, the bonds you make with your fellow soldiers, the sacrifices, the pre-deployment emotions, the heartbreaks, the reality of homecoming....Hannah did an incredible job conveying all the ups and downs in a Military family. It felt so REAL. We were also both stationed at Ft. Lewis in Washington so I knew the setting of the book exactly and it felt real and believable. The author did an amazing job with her research for this book, I really enjoyed the author's notes and interview with a female black hawk pilot at the back of the book.I also spent some time working with wounded Veterans at Walter Reed and Hannah's description of recovery and PTSD was heartbreakingly accurate. We have Veteran friends dealing with many different kinds of injuries, some physical, some mental, and we've even lost friends to Veteran suicide. This is such an important story for the American people to know and understand and Hannah does a beautiful job conveying this without over-doing it. However, I would like to add that Jo would have had more support from the Army (doctors, physical therapy, psychiatrists, psychologists) after coming home.I loved that this story was from a female soldier's perspective. Many women have fought and died in combat even though they were not (during the time this book was written) allowed in combat positions. Being a female soldier in an Army of men can be tough, and I do wish Hannah had developed this issue a little bit more. The use of "Fly girl" and "Soldier girl" didn't sit well with me. They both seemed a bit overused and too dramatic for my taste.Overall I absolutely loved this book and have not stopped thinking about it. I have only cried reading 2 books in my life and they both happen to be by Kristin Hannah: this one and The Nightingale. She manages to convey real human emotion so well, I only hope that the scheduled movies for these two books can do the same!

Well, it's alright if you like being forced to read books for school. However, after you get through the first initial chapters and learn their "ROPE" system, you get the point. It becomes really repetitive with very little more information other than the case studies it uses and examples.

Got this used, barely used it for my class. Good book but need more graphics.

Great information about public relations campaigns

As described

I use this text to teach public relations and have found it easy to organize the class around the book. My students have complained that they want more crisis cases, the structure of the book is repetitive, the thing costs too much, etc. I would criticize because it obviously has a good deal of information missing from the cases (Deepwater Horizon was particularly weak). Instead, I used the missing information as starting points for lengthier discussions on everything from quantitative measurement, sampling, and statistical methods to finding ways to build messages that resonate with target audiences. Keeping the cases short also has the added advantage of not overwhelming the students while giving them enough information to work with. Sure, this text isn't perfect but it does a really good job of beating PR principles and processes into the reader and providing some excellent jumping-off points for discussion and deeper exploration of the cases and the processes.I will happily continue to use this text but I hope the price can come down at some point.
