This is the first story I’ve read concerning the struggle of Israel’s quest for independence and I’m glad I read it.Ruth Gruber does an excellent job chronicling the life of Raquela Levy. As young woman, she tried to determine what her calling in life would be. When she realized her gift was being a midwife, she plunged herself into the work as she would with all her coming adventures.The parts that intrigued me the most were the battles the Jews were having not with the Arabs or Muslims, but the occupiers-Britain. They were not benevolent rulers as history has attempted to paint them in the 20th Century. They were hard, calloused and unconcerned with the plight of the Jews in Palestine.Even with the end of WWII and the finding of the concentration camps, you would think the British would be a little more understanding to the plight of the Jews. Not happening. They spent countless time and money ensuring no Jewish male was armed in order to keep order with their Arab neighbors even though they were being attacked. The restrictions on DP’s from Germany was just as appalling. Many of the people were survivors of the concentration camps and instead of breathing the air of freedom, they were placed in camps in Palestine and Cyprus that were replicas of the death camps they had endured. Absolutely appalling!Through all of this, Raquela would serve in each camp and continue to assist in bringing new life into a country they hoped one day would form- the promised land.A great story of love, passion and hope.An excellent companion to, “My Mother’s Ring.”Five Stars

Ruth Gruber wanted to tell the story of the nation of Israel. To do so she wanted to find a true 'woman of Israel'. She found Raquela, who was a 9th generation Israeli. Beginning in the 1940s Raquela's story is told - nursing school to become a midwife, dealing with news of Hitler's atrocities against the Jews. Further tragedy when the Jews were rescued from the camps, and then had no 'homeland' to return to. Thousands of them ended up in refugee camps which were not much better than where they had been. Raquela is sent to some of these camps to care for the pregnant women there, to deliver their babies, as well as delivering hope of eventual freedom. The book is an excellent history lesson from the point of view of one who lived it. The Arab-Israeli conflict is nothing new, and the Jews still struggle to claim their 'homeland'.

This is an amazing book. It is a page turner, although I am reading it more slowly as I want to take it in more and not finish too fast. Ruth Gruber was an amazing writer. I am sad she is gone now at 105 in 2016. Her life itself was an amazing life, spanning World War II, etc.. This book really provides an inside look at what it was like in Israel after the war when Israel had to fight to exist. It is nothing short than a miracle of God that they did. The evil of the British at that time is mind boggling. The British government treated the Jews that had been released from prison camps almost as badly as the Nazi's did. I still don't get it. It is very much the personal story of Raquela, but also the story of the early beginnings of Israel. There is so much I didn't know or understand about that time period. I am a lover of Israel and believe that they will prevail as God will never forsake them. Anyone who has any interest in Israel should read this book.

I loved this first-hand account of Ruth Gruber's life- beginning as a young child in Jerusalem to becoming a highly respected nurse/midwife during that time in history when hundreds of thousands of Jewish refuges came to Israel from the horrific prison/extermination camps in Germany. They came to the Promised Land rejoicing at this fulfillment of their dream of freedom, and of finally being able to establish a new life in Israel... only to find themselves once again in prison camps! In utter dismay, they are confined behind barbed-wire fences where they lived more years without the freedom they longed for. Though excruciatingly painful to read at times, the author paints for us a clear and haunting portrait of a brave people with an indomitable spirit who continue to overcome their circumstances. Ruth G.- who has her own share of tragedies, takes us on an unforgettable journey that will not be forgotten.

I'm new at matting and I found this book (along with one other) to be my two most referenced books on the topic. Great pictures!

This book has many photos for easy to follow instructions. It also has a lot of photos of ideas for different and creative framing. Great to keep around for reference.

Yes, its a small little book. But it has a wealth of information. I have several other more advanced and lengthier tomes on framing. However, this book packs far and away more matting variations in it than any of the other books. It is really a great source of well illustrated ideas for matting. However, its really not about making your own frames. It assumes you've bought frames that you want to mount pictures in. If you want a book about making frames buy The Home Book of Picture Framing. It gives you a woodworkers view of making frames. Even though that book is about five times the size of this little gem, its ideas for matting are far more limited.

Craig Keener, Professor of New Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary, wrote a 2-vol, 1248 page book on Miracles in 2011. Keener has risked his academic reputation as a New Testament scholar by contradicting the anti-miraculous assumptions of modern scholarship (p. 579). Keener devotes several chapters to David Hume's classic rejection of miracles. Hume lived 1711-1776. Hume declared that a miracle is a violation of the law of nature. Keener demonstrates logically that Hume's argument categorically dismissed anyone who contradicted his premise. Thus, his argument was not valid. This section gets a little philosophical and tedious. But then Keener, who was once an atheist himself, asks whether there is any firsthand evidence to support the possibility of miracles. Of course the logic is that if one such account is truly miraculous then the liberal, modernist, Enlightenment presupposition against miracles has been refuted. Keen collected 400 pages of such evidence across the span of history and from all over the world. Keener closed the first volume with 13 pages of accounts of the blind healed, 13 pages of the lame walking, and 43 pages of accounts of the dead raised to life. Page after page after page of such accounts can get a little monotonous until you start realizing what this means in terms of changed lives, apologetics, church growth, prayer, and a worldview of faith and hope. He has academically buried the classic liberal position and the classic Calvinist cessationist position by simply cataloging the evidence. Neither Craig, nor his African wife identify themselves as Pentecostal, in the classic sense of having spoken in tongues. Without embracing the extremes and excesses of historic Pentecostalism, it must be given credit for breaking the mindset of Western rationalism and making a supernatural worldview legitimate. Keener opens volume two by anticipating all of the possible alternate explanations which could be given to the documented “miracles.” After allowing for the possibility of psychosomatic healing, the placebo effect, as well as outright fraud, none of these explanations are sufficient to cover hundreds of millions of people who have claimed to have witnessed a miracle. It would be reductionistic to claim that every case of the miraculous can be sufficiently explained in naturalistic terms. While some physicians would rather claim that they misdiagnosed the case rather than to admit a miraculous healing had occurred, if that is the case, there have been enough cases of “misdiagnosis” to warrant an investigation of such prevalent misdiagnosis within the medical community! Finally, Keener shares twenty-two accounts of miracles that he has witnessed or which was reported to him by a trusted friend. Although I have not met Dr. Keener, I am happy to share two of those respected friends with him. Keener set up a grid:• a description of the healing claim• how do I know the witness?• psychosomatic element possible?• how frequent are such events normally?• supernatural explanation seems more plausible than not? His conclusion in every instance was that if miracles were not categorically ruled out as a legitimate possibility, that the most logical explanation was that it was miraculous. In the interest of full disclosure, I confess that I believed in the possibility of miracles prior to reading this book. I do not identify myself as Pentecostal, having never spoken in tongues. I do not identify myself as Calvinist, while affirming the authority and inerrancy of Scripture (along with Keener). In 1961 I contracted spinal meningitis and was in a coma for six days. I was placed in the isolation ward of Providence Hospital in Kansas City. My parents were told that I would be an invalid for the rest of my life and that they would need to be trained on how to care for me. My grandfather got up in the middle of the night and drove to my pastor’s home. Dr. Dale Yocum, my pastor, had a masters degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a PhD from the University of Kansas. He and my grandfather received divine assurance that God would heal me. The next day I sat up in bed and word spread through the hospital that a miracle had occurred. I went home five days later. That account was published in two denominational magazines and in Conformed to Christ which my pastor published in 1962. That was 54 years ago and I have lived a normal life. Needless to say, I have never been swayed by the arguments of David Hume nor of cessationist Calvinists. But I am happy that Keener has laid both theories to rest with this massive research project.

I found this life-changing. There is so much nonsense being promoted by Pentecostal extremism. I found myself growing in cynicism and a whole rationalistic approach to the Christian faith. It was though I had begun to relate to God like a set of principals, with little expectation of God moving in power. As I've been working through Dr. Keener's careful study of the miraculous I've found myself wanting to pray for the sick in a much more faith filled manner. I know there is no formula for healing, and that these 'signs' are given according to the sovereign purposes of God. But two weeks ago I took a little more initiative and prayed for a young man, who has had a severe condition limiting his ability to speak and sing (some kind of throat condition, that has lingered for the past 5 years). He literally has been able to sing (and the kid is a worship leader and musician). Anyway - for the first time in 5 years last Thursday he began to sing again.

I did not want to spend this much on a book on the discussion of Miracles, but in my searching this seemed to be the most exhaustive study and analysis of this phenomenon I have come across. I bought the two volumes planning to look through them and donate them to the Library. I have just finished volume 2, and I do not plan to donate this set to any library until I am gone, and then I will leave them to my heirs. This is the most exhaustively documented study of this issue that one can find and read. It is readable, organized, interesting, and hugely informative. If you are a child of the Enlightenment and Post-Modernism seeps into your soul, you dismiss miracle accounts as the "God of the Gaps" explanation of people who can not explain what they have experienced or seen. We moderns think that these "ignorant folk' just don't have enough education to understand the natural world, and since scientists on TV discount the supernatural, so should we all. Then Keener does a bunch of research and shows that that majority of the world has always believed in miracles, and about 90 of the people today, in the era of cell phones, and TVs still believe in miracles. Some 70 % have experienced or know someone who has experienced a miracle and almost 60% of doctors claim to have experienced miraculous healing! Now, maybe there is something to this supernatural stuff that requires the examination of modern analytic researchers. If you are interested in the most documented study ever of the available evidence of personal miracles, read this book. I heartily recommend it, and I thank the author for having the courage in this day and age to produce this study.

The author was thorough to support his thesis.He believes that God mostly gives healing miracles to peoplein areas where there is no medical help. I cannot argue with him.

Two volumes and so scholarly! I learned so much in just a few pages. This is not a "quick read", so I will be enjoying this author for a long time. The books are heavy, even though the print is very small. Half of the second volume is all footnotes, so don't be intimidated by the size. Just dig in and discover all the things you never thought about before regarding Biblical miracles.

Keener has arguably produced the definitive modern work on miracles. He not only engages philosophical presuppositions but cites a myriad of fascinating sources. This fantastic work inspired me to complete my three-volume series, Regeneration: A Complete History of Healing in the Christian Church.

Expected great things from this book. But the first hour is all about his defense of his research. No flow. Felt like is was reading a research paper, when I anticipated a easy educational read.

A bit long winded and dry - but should have been a game changer; maybe it would have been had theological liberals read it! This books a strong case for paranormal healings.

If you have heard, seen or even been near Sal Cincotta then you know 75% of this material already. I watched Sal on his very popular and well done Wedding Bootcamp class, on CreativeLive. His method is basically the same for the senior portrait market--know your client, reach your client, sell the experience not the product and price yourself for the right market. Great advice and the kick in the pants that photographers who want to be successful business owners need. I found several 'gems' in this book that paid for the book just by themselves, like his HS Ambassador program structure.Well written book with practical "Now do this" tidbits at the end of each chapter. The final chapter is a nice summary of all those action items. Worth buying.

This is an amazing book with fresh ideas and great photo's to get ideas. On this cover page I love the chair that this young girl is sitting on. I'm now looking for one exactly like it.

I am about half way thru this book (first read and there will be a second) and I could not wait to review it. Having seen a couple of online classes that Sal taught I was pretty sure this book would be very informative and easy to assimilate - I was right too.I've been shooting for a while and recently was thinking about branching out to seniors, so this book is so helpful. Hi Sal, Hoping to make you smile even more! I bought this book assuming it was mostly business but had a little of everything to improve your senior business and photography world. It was in fact mostly all business. As a business degree holder it was a lot of things I already knew mixed with some things that were very helpful. I have followed Sal on FB, CL, and BTS . I am still trying to attract " my kind of client " ... I could almost hear him narrating the book. I was really tired when I reviewed it before and my review actually made his FB page! I decided to rewrite my review. If you have a business degree and actually did you work in college much of this is review.. COGS and such.. but there still might be something for you... we can all always learn something new.. I am glad I bought this book but I sooo wish for some of Sals other incite in the senior world. I also was hoping for more awesome images , Jeff Smiths books are full of them, however Jeff came off as arrogant and I stopped buying the books due to his OL personality he displayed. Sal is funny and nice OL and a positive person in comparison. I prefer to buy books from a great OL author and photographer. Please Sal do a book on the other aspects of your senior world to go with this, sort of a companion book on the other .. I would think it would sell well :)

A great read for photographers needing some good tips and business props in High School Senior portraiture! I am a photographer who has dabbled in and out but just now seriously looking at it as a business. This helped me a lot!

This book is available for free as an online PDF. Don't waste your money buying it. Second, this book is a trap. The authors want to make you believe that they have uncovered the "secret strategy" used by the infamously wealthy Rockefeller family. They tell you that the secret is hidden in the right-kind-of-life-insurance policy... and then they try to sell you a life insurance policy by directing you to their website.So maybe the real secret to getting wealthy is to write an elaborate story designed to persuade people to believe what you're selling is going to make them rich and famous.

This isn't a be-all and end-all book, but it isn't intended to be. It writes a clear story about how to create both value and financial security, while managing personal risk, to create wealth that can continue to the next generation. This is one piece of a financial puzzle, but it's a great piece!

This is such an awe inspiring book! Before I knew it I was 80 pages in within a few hours.

I don't live in the US and I think this is only applicable to a US audience. I found it difficult to understand the concepts, and there was a lot of repetition. I don't understand how a product can be "so good". Usually if a product is too good to be true, there's a problem.

I read Garrett’s book “Killing Sacred Cows” in 2008, and it changed my mindset from one of scarcity to one of abundance. So, when I saw that Garrett and Micheal had written a new book, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy. A lot has changed in my life from eight years ago. I have created more wealth through my business, got married and started a family. I have two small boys ages 2 and 4. “What Would the Rockefellers Do?” was the perfect book at the perfect time. After reading the book, once again, I have experienced a mindset shift. Going from the traditional concepts of accumulation, that most, if not all financial experts teach, to now focusing more on cash flow. This was just one of the many concepts that had a profound effect on me. This book answered questions I was having like “Now that I have created wealth how should I protect it and increase it? How can I transfer that wealth to my children in the most efficient way, as well as, give them insight into my investor philosophy? How I can rig the system in my favor by setting up my own bank (I hate using the word game-changer when describing this but there IS a game being played out there, and this flips that game to your advantage). Equations like “Cash Flow Index” guide me and give me the confidence that my money is being used most efficiently. The lessons in this book are invaluable. Having implemented all the strategies in this book, I can say; I now have piece of mind knowing I am protected for the future. Also, it has freed me up to focus on what I do best within my business. I highly recommend this book.

Seriously life-changing read! My wife and I had been kicking the tires on getting our financial future in order, and had it down conceptually after Killing Sacred Cows (which we also loved and read 5x) but still didn't quite get the process... so had barely got started! As soon as I picked this one up I didn't put it down, and now we finally get it and immediately put things in motion. The material in here is worth so damn much, and it will literally just keep paying and paying... yet in a way that doesn't keep your money tied up for decades while others get their cuts of it and you can't touch it until you're too old to bend over and touch your toes! Get this and get started now.
