I was expecting a book on the Unites States solely but was pleasantly surprised! The first half of the book goes into depth the creation and lure of trans Atlantic crossings and Gibbs himself. I had no idea Gibbs accomplished so much. You see his work all the time in documentaries but his name is rarely mentioned. The Author does a superb job with his writing and telling of history. He has a gift for writing and was enjoyable to read. The cruise ship industry will never be the same. Yes there are a few boutique cruises which attempt to change current trends, most are these bloated top heavy ugly ships catering to shopping and all you can eat and hitting these ports catering to 100% tourism for the 1 hour stop over. The SS United States represents the end of an era and the pride a country can have.Thank you Steven Ujifusa for writing this great book and preserving the legacy of Willie Gibbs and the SS United States. I hope in my lifetime I get to tour the ship before she is scrapped.

I have been a fan of S.S. United States ever since first seeing her docked on the west side of Manhattan in her prime, and more recently, as a rusting hulk on the Philadelphia waterfront. This was a magnificent vessel created by a man who wanted to create a technological icon to the country. At a time of international maritime rivalry to establish the fastest passenger liner across the Atlantic, the United States shattered all previous records, and has yet to be beaten by any large passenger ship. Her demise, as well as those of her competing magnificent vessels (such as Queen Mary), can be attributed to economics and jet aircraft. Queen May is a hotel/museum in Long Beach California; United States sits rusting at a Philadelphia wharf, uncertain of her future. The creator of this magnificent vessel was prominent American marine architect, William Francis Gibbs. The ship was a dream of his some thirty years before her completion. Gibbs was as much of a story as the ship itself and the author weaves an interesting story intertwining the two. The story of the man, and the planning, politics, construction and retirement of this ship is the subject of this well-researched book.It is as much a history of the times as it is a story of "A Man and His Ship". The title says it all, you can't address one without the other.

Anyone with doubts about America's future should read this book. It's not political tract, but an enthralling story about teamwork, ingenuity, persistence, and one of those quirky American individuals, William Francis Gibbs, who built the S.S. United States, the fastest and most beautiful ocean liner in the world. Along the way, Gibbs also designed and organized production of 70 percent of the U.S. naval ships in World War II. This is a true story and it happened not too long ago.William Francis Gibbs was an introverted boy from a newly rich Philadelphia family that lost most of its wealth in the first decade of the last century. Young Willy fell in love with ships at age eight when he stood on the banks of the Delaware River and saw the gleaming new steamship, St.Louis. He is a protagonist you admire and care about. Among his more endearing qualities is that he became a Harvard drop-out. Gibbs would lock himself in his room to study engineering drawings of ships, ignoring his coursework and not mingling with his rich, more social classmates.Throughout his life Gibbs remained an oddball, but became a central figure in the American achievement in the first half of the 20th century (his picture was on the cover of TIME in 1942). Ujifusa's book is worth reading simply for its portrait of that period. There are priceless vignettes. Gibbs and his brother, both in their late 20s, meeting with J.P. Morgan Jr. in his Wall Street office to show him their drawings and get money for the ships they wanted to build. A young army captain from Kansas, Dwight D. Eisenhower, sipping tea in a fancy New York apartment, lobbying the head of the U.S. shipping commission for space on a converted ocean liner in order to get his tank battalion over to the European front. Gibbs hauled before a Congressional committee during World War II, accused of war profiteering and, with complete vindication, getting the committee to back down.Ujifusa wonderfully captures not just Gibbs and his place in history, but the ship itself. He rightfully calls the S.S. United States a masterpiece, and describes in lucid, beautifully-written detail all that went into it. To this day, it stands as a tribute not just to the genius of Gibbs, but to American technology, organization and competitive will. Early in his career, Gibbs had come to believe in the superiority of the smaller, higher speed turbines developed by GE and Westinghouse. He had applied American mass-production techniques, including a wide range of off-site suppliers, to quickly and inexpensively churn out cargo ships in World War II. The S.S. United States could only have been produced in America. Ujifusa's account of the ship's maiden voyage in 1952, when it shattered the Queen Mary's trans-Atlantic record by 10 hours (in a three and a half day voyage), is one of the most thrilling in the annals of competition. As in the best of stories, A Man and His Ship is about more than inevitable triumph. There is the financial failure of Gibb's father. Going to sea has always involved risk, and often tragedy. Mr. Ujifusa's narrative includes the impact of the Titanic disaster, and he describes the horrific fire on the ocean liner Morro Castle off the New Jersey coast in 1934 that killed 136 people. Commerce and shipbuilding went into decline during the Great Depression. Gibbs had fierce battles with Washington throughout his career. He was a difficult personality. In the late 1990s I had the privilege--and pain--of working with Steve Jobs. In reading Ujifusa's portrait of William Francis Gibbs, I thought, "He's like Steve." Gibbs hired a talented team of New York designers for the elegant interior of the S.S. United States, but he insisted on okaying "every piece of furniture, bolt of drapery and square foot of carpet." He would go to the New Jersey Meadowlands with a tuning fork to make sure he had just the right pitch for the ship's whistles. Thank goodness America produces people like that and provides them freedom and resources to do great things.

I grew up in NY City at the end of the era of the great ocean liners. Whenever I drove down the West Side Highway I would search for the beautiful ships that docked there, most especially the "Big U," SS United States. The very first book I bought, in 1953, was about this ship. Ujifusa has created a memorable portrait of this phenomenal technological achievement, and of the enigmatic and driven man who designed and built her, William Francis Gibbs. It is at once historically accurate and emotionally compelling, a literary effeort to be proud of. Perhaps no one but a man like Gibbs could have built the greatest ocean liner of them all, and had he not lived, it never would have happened. The Big U is the apical achievment not only of the 1950's, but in terms of marine architecture, of all time. Nothing has surpassed her, and nothing ever will. That she is sitting at her moorings in Philadelphia today, rusting away, is not only a crime but an insult to the memory of her designer and the thousands of people who built her. Ujifusa has done a great service to America by writing the story in such a readable and entertaining, moving way.

Very well written, the book completely engaged me in its portrait of an unusually driven man from an era now gone. There is a certain lingering sadness to the tale, which chronicles the search for perfection in a system, and a culture, which was about to be swept away by new technology after only seventeen years of service. But the book is all about the excitement of that chase for perfection and in portraying that the book succeeds very well.

This is a very important novel. As I read it I was impressed by its simultaneous complexity and accessibility. It is journalistic in its immediacy and it reads like literal history subtly shaped and enhanced by a novelist’s narrative devices. It is so clear and so straightforward that one can easily overlook the literary models from which Don Winslow is drawing and the themes which he is exploring in a profound but unobtrusive way.If we take the classic division of literature into epic/lyric/dramatic, the novel is usually placed under the first category. While all novels are not ‘epic’ or epics, this one most certainly is. Epics often concern the establishment of a society, but this novel (like its predecessor, The Power of the Dog) depicts a society’s destruction and near dissolution. That is, in fact, one of The Cartel’s overarching themes: how complete is the destruction wrought by drugs, particularly drugs that are increasingly more powerful and less expensive? Is there any discernible room for hope? Art Keller, the protagonist of each of the novels, has a Mexican girlfriend. She says, in a pivotal line, that the difference between Mexicans and North Americans is that the latter believe that problems can actually be solved.Since the victories in this war are temporary and the core evils of addiction and greed are never fully conquered, Winslow is also tapping into the ethos and plot structures of the chivalric romance. This romance, however, does not occur in a single forest of wizards and necromancers; it covers the globe. Finally, the novel’s focus on a set of memorable individuals personalizes the many-sided story and takes us into the world of what James Ellroy calls ‘tragic realism’, a world in which redemption may be possible but one in which that redemption is very heavily compromised. So Don Winslow’s aspirations here are high. The canvas is huge, taking us from Guatemala to Barcelona, but the principal focus is Mexico (all of Mexico, from Juárez to Chiapas, from Sinaloa to the Gulf, from the remote safe houses to the fashionable condos of the city and coast). Art Keller, the DEA agent who has been fighting the cartels and its patrón, Adán Barrera, for thirty years, are joined by scores of other characters from a host of cartels (and their splinter sects) to a handful of good people, exhibiting courage in the face of overwhelming odds and uncommon cruelty. Some of these characters are menacing and violent to an unprecedented degree; none of them are dull. As the wars (cartel vs. cartel; the governments [and a few brave individuals] vs. the cartels) continue over the course of 600+ pages, several realizations set in.First (as in No Country for Old Men), the money involved is so great that it effects a breakdown in both human behavior and civil society. It is simply irresistible and it is pursued at vast costs, no matter what the consequences might entail. When you can buy a kilo of cocaine for $5,000 and sell it on the European market for $55,000, the temptations make those of Satan or Mephistopheles look like a waiter offering a spoonful of fruit loops to a diabetic.Second, as the violence and desperation escalate, our government ‘agent’ comes to realize that he has now become nothing more than a hunter. On the larger scale, the interactions, actions and reactions, of the governments, the drug traffickers and the agencies of law enforcement create a web of dependency that dissolves the sharp distinctions between good and evil. Ultimately (with governments choosing the lesser of evils among the cartels and with the exportation of drugs as the central element of Mexico’s economy), ‘the cartel’ is everyone, not just a single group of traffickers. Thus, the title, which seems somewhat innocuous, is in fact profound. It describes our very world itself. The novel has been ‘anxiously contemplated’, as Conrad would say. The architecture of the plot is dazzling. We cover ten years of time, hundreds of thousands of square miles of landscape, dozens and dozens of named, important characters and we do so clearly and straightforwardly because of Don Winslow’s guiding hand.I would offer particular praise for the novel’s texture, which is primarily achieved through the use of Spanish expressions, idioms and maxims, and yet the reader can follow this without having any knowledge of Spanish beyond the expressions which commonly occur in crime fiction. Winslow has clearly immersed himself in the language, culture, and history of contemporary Mexico and offered us a hard-earned result that is delivered with a very light touch. The Cartel is now the reigning novel treating modern drug trafficking, Winslow’s finest work (in tandem with The Power of the Dog) and a novel/epic/romance/realistic tragedy that no reader of crime fiction should miss.

Seldom do we see books that are technically fiction but based in hard reality and accurate historical details that match the brilliance of Don Winslow. I strongly encourage readers to read "The Power of the Dog" first, as it is the first half of a horrifying world of the Mexican drug cartels, their internal struggles, the jaw droppingly horrifying atrocities against anybody who dares cross a drug lord's path, or a cartel's. "The Cartel" is the second part of this monumental series, and because the first part is highly suggested as the first one to read, although "The Cartel" stands on its own, I will not get into too many plot details. The primary character, Art Keller, who has many notches on his own belt due to fighting in Vietnam and battles in the "War on Drugs", is a marked man having crossed every drug kingpin of note in Mexico and their paid lackeys like federal troops, corrupt politicians and police forces on all levels, not to mention the extremely violent paramilitary troops who enforce the wishes of the leaders of the notorious Zetas, a cartel that has absolutely no code of honor whatsoever. Whereas the other main character, the head of the Sinoloan cartel, the very crafty and intelligent Adan Barrera, at least gives the impression of leaving innocents alone, the Zetas kill anybody any time, including little street level junkies who are found guilty of buying their dope from Barerra's cartel instead of them, and vice versa. We can remember the horrible wars that racked Cuidad Juarez, the border city across the Rio Grande from El Paso, Texas, where murders were being committed by the scores of victims, many mutilated and tortured and then dismembered and left on city streets as "lessons" for whatever infraction the cartels thought up on any given day. Winslow reports that in this phase of the internecine fighting, as many as close to 16000 Juarez citizens were gruesomely murdered in the space of just a couple of years. While that calamity has subsided somewhat, the worst border crimes focusing in Nuevo Laredo and Laredo, TX, where access to I-35, San Antonio, I-10 with its paths to Houston, New Orleans and beyond to Jacksonville, Florida is a temptation they can't ignore. Border agents, DEA agents and others are corrupted and many times because they want to live another day, so as we all know, the "war" on drugs is nothing but a lot of hot air, token busts, and was never designed to stop anything. There is simply far too much money to be made, and the U.S.' appetite for cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana is gargantuan. We as the consumers of these substances are just as culpable if we do use illicit drugs as the cartels, as they are only too happy to make tons of money and have huge international influence on whole governments while they're at it. The book itself is so well written and researched that it truly belongs in the pantheon of the greatest crime novels or historical crime books, like "The Godfather" for the thrilling story and suspense, and "Wiseguys" and "Casino" for accuracy and explaining just how vicious and just plain psycho cartel bosses and their underlings can be. That the Mexican government is up to its eyeballs in the drug trade is not news, but one can't help but maybe feel a bit of empathy for some in said government and law enforcement who are paid to play, or brutally murdered, and oftentimes forced to watch their families die first. It isn't much of a choice. Nonetheless, Winslow is a superb author, the two books gripping, and I can't wait to read his other novels. Be forewarned: "The Power of the Dog" and "The Cartel" are upsetting, depressing and disturbing. It's a story that needs to be told, however, and we must understand that as long as there is a demand for any kind of product or services, regardless of how dangerous or sinister, there will be a supply. It's a frustrating cycle that humanity bestowed upon itself.

Wow...that's all I can really say. I have not read a book this good, that I couldn't put down, that kept me up half the night in a long time. I was actually sad when it ended. This book starts near the end and then goes back to the beginning. And then it brings us forward slowly and surely, drawing the reader in with characters who just come alive in their wickedness and humanity. There is also a lot of commentary here on the never ending war on drugs, something I personally played a minor role in during the late 80s and early 90s when I was in the military. Mr. Winslow has clearly done his research because he really gets how things work and how these various agencies act and interact. But the real value here is the characters. A protagonist and an antagonist who are perhaps one and the same. They dance around for most of the book but you know the eventual showdown is coming and when it does, it is worth the wait.If you are put off by violence as part of the story line, or upset by graphic depiction of that violence, there are some parts of this book that might be objectionable. This also isn't light summer reading, some of it can be pretty dark, but if you're looking for a book that will draw you in emotionally and take you for a wild satisfying ride, this is the way to go.

This is one of a few of Mr. Dahl's books in this line I purchased after how well "Little Monkey Calms Down" went over with our son. I previewed it on Kindle Unlimited first, and then made the decision after doing so to buy it. I also went on to buy a few more of these books for kindle, because I discovered something very interesting in the process of previewing this book: Our son actually seems to find new books more motivating in kindle format. I'm guessing because he likes the finger swiping thing better then the page turning thing because it's easier for him.Anyways, he occasionally tries to lightly push someone or their hand away when he doesn't want to do something. It's not an aggression thing for him, I think he just finds it easier then using his speech device. Obviously, this isn't something we want, so we've been encouraging communication and behavioral strategies that have been reducing this behavior, but I thought it might be nice to have a story to emphasize the point. I like that the sentence structures are so simple, because it makes it easier to acclimate him to a new book and have him focus on the main message. Since the message is super important for what we are trying to do with him, I like it. But if you have a normal functioning older kiddo, I'd say this would fall into the range of being best for a typically developing 18 month to 3 year old. But, for a kiddo with developmental delays or cognitive impairment, I think that age range of usefulness could go up higher. Our son is 5.I like that it starts out mentioning that little dino is big and tough, because my kiddo is big and very strong for his age, and I think it's important to have the talking point of "be careful what you push." I think it's good that this book includes both a brother and a sister in the list of people not to push, because even though a family may not have one or the other, many families do have a sibling of some gender. For our son, he has a sister. If your kiddo is an only child, this may present a problem for you because it's two thirds of the subjects little dino is told not to push. The remaining one is friends. For us, this still works, because whenever we're about to go out to do therapy onsite somewhere, I always refer to his therapist as "our friend..." and add the name. So for us, even though our son doesn't have friends his own age and isn't even remotely interested in that at this time (that can be Autism for you), we still use that term for people he interacts with and I find that section useful.Where I marked this down comes in two parts. One, there isn't really a strong why provided. In the end it mentions that not pushing allows everyone to have fun together, but my son doesn't care about that. But he's basically very gentle in his heart, and doesn't like to see people or animals hurt. So if he knows the main reason for not doing something is that it could or will hurt someone, you're much more likely to get cooperation from him. Also, the kindle version gets glitchy sometimes and cuts off part of the page and the words, and you have to mess with it some to get the full image up. Which can be challenging when you already are dealing with a child who has limited amounts of patience for books.Otherwise, I think this is a good, solid, simple teaching book about not pushing. I also like that there are positive things given a person could push, I think that's helpful because it's an important behavioral management strategy to be able to have appropriate replacers.

This book has very cute, colorful illustrations, and has very easy to understand wording. I purchased this for my toddler who is still learning to interact appropriately with his peers (aka, not push them or pull them, etc). He absolutely loves this book, and it became a favorite as soon as I gave it to him. He immediately understood the message, especially since he's obsessed with cars - he really connected to that comparison. So now I can say "remember, we don't push our friends, we push the cars" and he just grins at me, and actually has stopped pushing as much as he was! It didn't completely solve our problem, but he went from being so bad about pushing that he was in constantly at school, daycare, church nursery, etc to only getting in trouble every once in awhile, not even every day! For age comparison, he's 3 1/2 years old but is delayed, so he understands at about a 1 1/2 to 2 year old level.

I love these series also the autors other bookes little lion, monkey and elephant series. These are perfect for children as young as infants to preschool age when these behaviors become an issue. We also read but did not buy hands are not for hitting which is ok for older kids.My son loved he lil dino series right off the bat, the pictures are eye catching, simple sentences beginner readers can read and it explalins the behavior in a very simple way. Like most books for toddlers it is open for parents to explain how each dino feels (explain facial features of the dinos being pushed) so it's a great tool for social emotional development! I recommened these with my sons speech therapist and she loved them as well!

This book has been helpful with explaining to my toddler what they can/should push vs pushing friends. I was v concerned when I got reports back from daycare that my kid was pushing others when they tried to take things from them. As a response we started to talk about their day in class and about pushing and using words as well as what is appropriate to push. This book put into illustration the after effects of pushing. We now talk about pushing doors, chairs, button and not friends.Dinosaurs are always a good way to introduce kids to concepts as well. Win win!

I absolutely love the entire series of Dino’s don’t. As my toddler experienced different stages of behavior that was unfavorable like hitting/biting, we’d read these books at bedtime and when she exhibited the behavior again I’d say “Dino’s don’t bite friends” and she’d repeat it back. It really helped address those behaviors and ultimately put an end to them without punishing her for “bad” behavior. Highly recommend these books as a tool to teach your child.

I got this for my 4 year old who is having trouble behaving at preschool. I should have read the details more closely, I missed the age range was 2-4 which made this book too simple for my son. Each 2 page spread had simple statements such as "Don't push your sister" "Push the swing". Both this book and the Dinos don't Hit book have references to a brother and sister which doesn't apply to us and were confusing. My son did like them because of the dinos and was upset when I told him I returned them. Might work for the younger crowd but needed something with more substance.

Wonderful for toddlers.you think they don't know what's going on? One quick of this little. BOok and you soon realize toddlers know exactly what's going on our twins seemed actually relieved that someone or something actually related to their plight. The pushing has stopped!

This book is terrible. I can't believe my class required it. Chapters are incredibly long and you flip between information that is very fluffed / not useful for the examples given to incredibly dense examples that take multiple re-reads to even begin to understand. Additionally, the thing is RIDDLED with typos that make doing work almost impossible. Multiple times in a chapter I will have the textbook reference something like "See figure 6.17a" only for figure 6.17a to not exist!A typo here and there or grammatical issues is one thing, but pointing students to non existent figures while requiring them to solve problems that need referencing of those figures is unforgivable. This is easily the worst textbook I've used in my university career.

I'm afraid I have to agree with most of the reviewers here: this book is horrible. Unfortunately, it's required for my class. In order to actually understand most of the subject matter, I have to constantly refer to other books, YouTube videos, Google searches, and homework help services. It seems the authors are trying to cram too much information into one book, with the result that they are covering all of the information very badly. My recommendation would be to cut down on the variety of information presented and cover fewer topics well.

Using this book for a graduate course. As other reviewers have stated its a really rough read and at times difficult to follow. Agree with others that this book needs to be better edited for content and clarity. Would not recommend as a reference book.

I personally liked this text.It is not perfect, and some sections should be more elaborated, but otherwise it is rather informative.Covers boolean algebra, logic gates, memory organization, and many other good things. It can't be read quickly. You will have to spend time to read carefully.Positive: for the most part questions for each chapter can be answered based on information in the book. In my life I have encountered text where there were NO way questions could be answered based solely on the info in the text. So, if you getting this text for class, it is good news.Negative: I feel that some sections could be elaborated more with further examples. For instance binary divisions and multiplications would be better with couple more examples.I feel like I didn't waste time reading it, so you too could learn something from it (unless of course you already know the subject well...).

This book is ok, but sometimes does not do a great job at more detailed explanations. It seems to really only be meant for introductions into the topics where when the student gets to class, the professor goes into more detail. Honestly after mid-terms I stopped reading it but it is a good reference and the MARIE language developed by the authors is really useful to introduce students to assembly type languages.

The chapters provide a general overview of ideas/topics but the questions at the end of the chapter are very detail intensive. Probably the second worst book I have ever come across in my entire life. Know that if the book is required, you will be using other sources to actually learn the material to do the homework. Good luck.

Thorough, well-written, highly technical textbook. Presented the detailed information I was looking for with a lot of helpful examples and diagrams. Really not sure why it's gotten such poor reviews here. Sure, some of the information is complicated and dry -- but that's the nature of the subject matter.

I would give it a five star if it's a book from Wikibooks. Lots of overly detailed facts, historical information, mediocre but acceptable formatting, and excessive citations - everything you would expect from a community sourced textbook. But this is a published textbook with a price tag of over 200 dollars. And only minutes into reading the book, I got terribly frustrated. Some of the problems the book has, which I've discovered after reading the first chapter, are as follows:1. The book uses very low quality images. On Page 9, there is even a picture taken from Wikipedia! Being printed in black and white, it is near impossible to see what's actually on the picture. (It is a photo of a motherboard with blurry annotations that you cannot read). And on Page 27, there is a picture that seemed taken by a cellphone camera. What's bothering me is that the book actually uses professional illustrations as well. Why do they allow low quality images to be used when they have access to professional artists, who could easily draw a much better illustration than a low resolution photo.2. The typography of this book is rather bad. If they could use a smaller font size that most college-level textbooks would use, the near 900-page book would probably be only half as thick. The formatting is so minimal that you will have no idea if you are reading a new section or just a sub-section. Important concepts are not highlighted properly, while random words are put in bold for no apparent reasons.3. It seems that whoever wrote the exercise questions did not read the book at all. Questions are irrelevant to what's covered in the chapter, and sometimes require you to Google the answer - the book just mentions nothing about what the question's asking.4. Also it seems that whoever wrote the answers for the exercise questions did not read the questions at all. The answer to exercise 8 in Chapter 1 seems just plain wrong. However, it is a solid book - it holds my coffee mug without deformation, even after hours of use.

You can always count on Kit Morgan for a fun story, but especially when the Weavers are involved. This time the Weaver family plays supporting cast to a story of redemption. Olivia Bridger, once a thorn in the Weaver side, is left injured and helpless in the Weaver's path. True to their nature, the family steps in to help certain that she will eventually turn back to her old self. Meanwhile, George Johnson is visiting his family in Nowhere when he too crosses paths with Olivia and is smitten. Only time will tell if Olivia has truly changed and if she's able to find love.

Redemption is possible with the help of angles and friends and and a large bump on the head. Your storytelling and characters really captivated me with the adventures that you weaved together for their journey. Olivia and George really had an exceptional courtship with circumstances that were almost unbelievable with twist and turns that surprised me. Grandpa with the help of unforgettable Albert and Bob was a priceless addition. Really enjoyed this story, exceptionally intriguing and compelling to the end.

Love Kit Morgan and love her stories on the weaver family ..This was a very interesting story . Lots of old character and some new ones .Great book to read , a never a dull moment when you are surrounded by the weaver and a little town name nowhere .

WOW , Kit Morgan has done it again. Love all of these books 📚 , the family and friends , feel like I know the places and the people that live there. The Weavers are a fan with a story , and Miss Kit knows how to tell a story. Thank You for this series, I have all of them and love every single one . ☺

I was so happy to read another book about the Weavers. This was a refreshing and delightful story. Looking forward to the next Weaver Family books.

Another great read , love them Weavers too much fun !! Always something going on with them and always crazy !

Great to catch up with old friends the Weavers. Very funny.I recommend this delight read from Kit Morgan. Well done.

“Holidays with the Weavers” is a purely delightful story that takes us back to characters we’ve met before in several of Ms. Morgan’s series, and multi-author series she’s written in as well. You may recognize a feathered friend from the ‘Cowboys and Angels’ series, too. So, yes, delightful is exactly the right word to use for this story of redemption, changes, and promises for the future. The Weaver family can only be described as rambunctious and unique – there really is no other way. I’ve loved the stories featuring so many members of this family finding their true loves, and have hopes for many more to come. “Holidays with the Weavers”, tells the tale of one woman who caused so much grief for this family years ago, suddenly reappearing in their lives… with no memory of her past involvement with them. Olivia is found on the side of the road in a muddy ditch with a head wound. She is so completely covered in mud and debris that no one recognizes her at first. But once they do the memories and resentment come flooding back to those she did harm to… in the past. Yet being the good people that they are, this family decided to bring Olivia home with them to recover from the accident. Olivia only knows her name and nothing else about herself, the doctor suggests allowing her memories to come back naturally. She’ll be, at first, reluctantly welcomed into this family’s lives, and as she begins to recover they’re discovering that this Olivia is quite different… but the past and her unwoken memories leads to decisions that may or may not work out for the best in the end.I loved how George championed Olivia. Of course, he knew nothing of her past when he began falling in love, yet even when faced with the truth delivered by those she’d harmed he still sees her as she is today. His love for this broken woman was truly unconditional – and you don’t run across that very often. I got such a chuckle from Grampa’s “imaginary friends” although we know them for what they are. It was the crowing that gave it away. *grin* If you haven’t run into “Bob” yet, then you’re in for a treat.I just had such fun with “Holidays with the Weavers” and I’d not hesitate to recommend it to any reader of Western Historical Romance. We’ll also get a hint of what is to come, and for me at the time of this review, that next step is only a few weeks away. If you’re looking to catch up with old book friends or just experience a fun, charming romance then you’ll want to pick up this one… any time of the year.I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
