This book was incredible. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it was like a comforting companion next to me on my nightstand for a couple of days. I finished it in about 5 hours. I knew that Hannah was an amazing person who was striving for, not just success, but purpose. I have been following her since the early days, so I knew all about her Hello, Harto! tour and donated to that Indiegogo and kept up with it live. I was so excited when her 50k goal was more than quadrupled...why? Because the world needs more Hannahs. Witty, sensitive, empathetic activists. The next time someone tries to say millennials are slackers or ungrateful or unwilling to do hard work, show them this book. Hannah started off cleaning toilets as a maintenance manager and is now a wealthy, famous creator of multiple types of content. She is also responsible for tons of volunteering thanks to her Have a Hart Day! annual events (now there is even a membership card!)...not surprisingly, she says this is one of the things she is most proud of, even more so than building a YouTube empire. Which did not happen by accident, by the way - she was very calculated and stuck to her guns even as producers and pitchers were trying to get her to sell, or just radically change, her idea.I hope you will read this book and go on this journey with me. I know most Hartosexuals (that's what Hannah calls her dedicated fans) will already have read this book, but I am hoping some people get to know her backwards, reading this book first and then watching My Drunk Kitchen. Because she is a fascinating person with a troubled, complex childhood first, and an adorable and entertaining drunk chef second (or maybe even third).

Watching her grow into the amazing YouTube personality she is. I was so happy to watch her find success.So many parts of this book touched me in a way I wasn't expecting. I knew it was going to be about a side of her we never knew. A side of her she had no obligation to share. I didn't expect it to make my cry. And I did cry. I cried for her. I cried for me. I cried because she hit so many points I could relate to on some level. I laughed because she has a way of using humor to cope. Just like me. I'm actually taking some of her advice. I'm going to try some guided meditation to aid my own healing in regards to my mental health.I admire Hannah even more than I already did.

As a software developer, I tend not to read a lot of 'soft' skills books, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one.There's a lot to like with this book, the first thing that grabbed me was the effort the author spent on helping the reader get to the material most relevant for them.For example, there's a cheat sheet at the end of chapter one that identifies your aims or market and directs you to the topics of most relevance to you.I would love to see this feature in more books.As a user of many web sites including the one you're reading this review on right now, I find it fascinating to see the author take a site I'm familiar with, select a feature from that site I've found compelling and then break down that feature to demonstrate the underlying physiological technique behind them.The author uses a lot of real world web sites, so it's nice to see the theories demonstrated in real life situations .It's also nice to have the science behind things like social Identity explained, as we all want to build sites that have strong user engagement.I think this book will help me understand the end-user with a lot more depth than before when designing new websites .

And this huge flow makes it tough for businesses and organizations to catch and hold our attention long enough to convince us to buy a product or service, donate to a cause, or volunteer. Victor Yocco's "Design for the Mind" offers "seven psychological principles of persuasive design." So there should be little mystery about the book's focus and Yocco's approach. "I am unabashedly pro persuasive design," he writes. "I think persuasion has a bad rap--but I understand why. The word typically conjures up an image of a smooth-talking salesperson, someone who doesn't have your best interests in mind. In design, this can mean trickery and deceit through dark patterns. "Design for the Mind" is a very well-written book that brings together principles of psychology with design of digital systems (specifically web and mobile apps). I found Yocco's writing style to be very engaging and approachable. This was a relief, as my expectation was that the book might be too academic for my taste. Yocco does a nice job of referencing psychology texts where appropriate, but explains the academic principles in a way that a layperson can understand.I also found the example web sites with detailed screenshots to be very supportive of his points in the text. The preface also gives the reader a great preview of what the book contains and what it doesn't. (I was glad to discover that Yocco does not advocate user deception in any form.) This is not a book on design for digital; it is a book about applying psychological ideas to digital design.This is a book that I will not only recommend to my retired psychology professor father, but one I'll recommend to my design colleagues as well.(Manning Publications provided me a copy of this book for review purposes.)

Whether you want to create better digital products, design a presentation, convince team members or your boss or your customers about something Victor Yocco has written a book describing how you can use the methods and tools of influence and persuasion to do this. Although Victor focuses on digital design the background material and some of the ideas can easily be used for other purposes.The outset are the scientific methods and how each of these can be used to improve digital designs. Most chapters have a good structure providing an introduction to the method from a scientific point, then explaining what this means for digital design and finishing with plenty of exercises which allows you to practice the content.The book is full of examples and although some of them seem obvious (because we have seen them so many times) getting them in context of the methods and thus understanding why this kind of design works is very useful.I have not read other books that have a similar approach to digital design and as such I find the material very useful. There are other more detailed books on influence and persuasion if that is what you are really looking for although this book provides an excellent introduction. I do think this book is a useful tool, but obviously not the only one to create a compelling and convincing digital product.Why not 5 stars?Although not difficult, I did not find the language and sentences fluid which makes the book slightly heavy to read.

So in reference to the book itself, I’d give it a thousand stars because this author and his writing is absolutely incredible and I cannot get enough of it. I’m giving the low star rating just because I’m disappointed with the way my book arrived right out of the box :( as you can see, the cover is bent and beat up looking with dark marks on it. This is of course something that doesn’t affect the functionality of the book, however, I’m one of those people that takes pride in keeping my books in very good condition, especially an amazing book such as this. If this sounds like I’m crazy or super picky I’m sorry but it’s something that definitely bothers me. I am going to try to return it I guess or maybe pick up in store because I want to support Yung Pueblo but I just wanted to say I was surprised and disappointed to see the book come like this (5 stars for fast shipping though!)

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.I loved this book and found it challenging personally yet enjoyable conversational even to read. Fr Pivonka shares his journey with the Holy Spirit mixed with selections from the Bible, the Catechism, and papal writings to paint a new picture of the Holy Spirit and what it should mean to Catholics everywhere. Each chapter closes with a couple of personal reflection questions and a suggested activity like a prayer or a thought exercise or action to take.Father discusses how some are put off by charismatics and I will not demur from being one of them. However, his explanation and admission that some of the participants are in fact off putting was very helpful. After attending Mass one Sunday at a charismatic parish, I was confused and didn't quite understand what was going on around me. I feel like I know better get what they are trying to do even if I still find some of the ideas in that parish strange, which is okay.More importantly, Fr Pivonka talks about letting the Holy Spirit into our lives personally every day and every which way. Sometimes it may be big like speaking in tongues, but other times it is what he calls a nudge. I read that passage and thought that I had just gotten one such nudge, the unexpected arrival of this book from the publisher in my mailbox!This is not a book I would have picked up exactly because I don't much think of the Holy Spirit beyond the Sign of the Cross or Pentecost. I say a prayer every day to help me listen to the Holy Spirit, but I think He could be screaming and I wouldn't know. After reading this book, I am hopeful that maybe I am now better able to feel that nudge and hear that whisper. Fr. Pivonka really made the point about not forgetting this member of the Trinity and how we are all poorer for ignoring the gifts AND fruits of the Holy Spirit in our lives each day.I think that anyone who is lacking that real presence in their lives and especially the ones who may find such an idea off putting (like me) are exactly the ones who should read this book, but will be the first to say oh this isnt for me. IT IS. This book is not one I would have picked off the shelf at the Catholic bookstore, but I think it has actually made a difference in how I approach the Holy Spirit. What a blessing.

Father Dave has a wonderful sense of humor matched perfectly to his wonderful sense of the Holy Spirit. I have recommended this book to so many friends. I find myself re-reading this book and now I am keeping my own notes in relation to not only what I have read, but what action the Holy Spirit is calling me to do daily. Read this book only if you want your life to change! Father Dave is right - the Holy Spirit is truly the Wild Goose who prods us at just the right moment. Come, come Spirit of God.

I bought Fr Dave's book after hearing him speak at my church. He has such a down to earth, warm style of writing that makes difficult concepts more easy to understand and connect with. As someone going through RCIA to become Catholic, the Holy Spirit can sometimes be difficult to wrap my head around, but reading this book has given me new understanding and excitement that is helping me grow in my prayer life and is adding valuable preparation for Baptism. My RCIA instructor always explains how the "heart stuff" is so important to have with the "head stuff" and Fr Dave truly knows how to help open both our hearts and minds through the work of the Spirit with God's love.

I have been looking for a simple book explaining about the Holy Spirit and I find Fr. Pivonka's book so easy to read and understand. It has touch my heart and been given another anointing of the Holy Spirit as I read this book and watch his DVD series titled "The Wild Goose"I have been recommending this book to my friends and family.

A really fun story. My grandkids really enjoyed it. They are learning to swim, too, so it really hit home with them. I highly recommend the book. I will be looking at other titles in this series.

These books are truly wonderful reading for young children. In our family, the young ones sit quietly and enjoy what each page brings. There's always a "moral" to be learned, and an adventure along the way. They bring the reader and the child into another time and place, which is fascinating.

Kids love them.

What I am most pleased by Cross the Line is that it doesn’t feel like formula-based writing. When you consider how many books the author writes in any given year, it is easy to understand how some sort of formula must be necessary, but this story reads as if it were the only thing on this writer’s mind. If writing can have charisma, Cross the Line has oodles of charisma. CROSS THE LINE is James Patterson’s 24th book in the Alex Cross series. I’ve never been a big fan of the series, but I give this one some high marks. Believe this book was actually written by Patterson without the help of his usual surrogate writers. For the most part the story is an action thriller and the Cross family appearances are kept to a minimum (thank goodness). The annoying Nana Mama still crops up way too often. The story starts with a wave of senseless killings across Washington DC and its suburbs. Only after the District Chief of Detectives and his Slovakia girlfriend are gunned down in cold blood on a busy public walkway does it grab the attention of Washington politicos. They demand swift action. Dr. Cross is asked to take the job as Chief of Detectives but turns it down. His wife, Bree Stone, accepts the position. This makes for interesting team and family dynamics as they pursue bad guys across the District. Interest grows as the story wades through several subplots. One involves a group of hardcore ex-military vigilantes who take the law into their own hands, another trudges into the manufacture and distribution of dangerous narcotics, and yet another deals with the trafficking and servitude of young European women at an exclusive Washington area resort. Cross and Stone ferret out the criminal activity with tact and practiced protocols. There is plenty of action with good fight scenes and shootouts. Although not a Cross fan, I must say the novel is engaging and held my interest. I give the story 4-stars.

Is James Patterson farming out his Alex Cross novels? That's what I wondered as I read Cross the Line and found myself finishing some of the author's sentences. I didn't remember Patterson being so predictable before. I also spotted a couple mistakes in grammar in this latest book, and some cliches: unusual. I stopped reading Patterson's co-authored books years ago because some were frankly terrible, but I stuck with his Alex Cross series. Cross the Line was a disappointment to me. I finished it, but I was rarely engaged in the story. However, it's nice to know Alex's family members are doing well; one does become attached over time. I hope to see the series continue and the stories return to the kind a reader can't put down.
