Our small group is almost done with this study, and it is one of the best Bible studies we've done! The authors take turns teaching about 12 women of the Bible, plus each DVD segment has a personal testimony related to the theme of that lesson. Even the lessons on the Bible women we were familiar with were interesting and informative. Not preachy or boring at all, and the study guide had information which was new to many of us. Absolutely wonderful series!I'm so excited to learn that the next series is coming soon! "Twelve More Women of the Bible" study guide and DVD will be released 12/27/16. It's already on my wishlist :-)If you're looking for a good women's study for your group, make sure you pick this one! You will not be disappointed.

This is one of my favorite bible studies to do with women. The stories are presented in such a way that you feel as if you are in a living room together. The women who lead each study give their unique personality that enhances the overall study while keeping it interesting. Each chapter is scripturally sound and relevant. Every time I have led this, I've learned something new and the ladies that go through this study are always wanting more because it is so good!

We studied this in our Ladies Sunday School. We actually didn't use the book much at all. We listened to the DVD, then afterwards ask our own questions or said our own thoughts pertaining to the video lesson. We all really enjoyed it. It was really good.

It's a good book and study guide. Some off the stuff did not add up with God's word and what he has taught me but I would still tell you to buy because it has good stuff in it and they are trying to encourage everyone to seek Christ /God. But it's up to us to know God for ourselves and to seek him.

Study is a little " light" as far a bible studies go however, it opens up a lot of discussion. It is a good choice for a group that does not want to do a lot of homework or may prefer to do the entire lesson together as a group. Each lesson stands alone with approximately 20 min video each time. Good study for beginners to bible study.

Great mini-Bible studies by some of the most popular Christian teachers, relating some of the Bible's women to our place in life today. I use this in my prison ministry and it touches many hearts, opening discussion of some deep hurts and wrong attitudes.

My woman's group enjoyed investigation this collection of women in the Bbile. Only one small complaint, the description page which discusses each woman has a flaw. The text is printed white on orange. You might need a magnifying glass. This is extremely difficult to read. However, the stories are sound and show God's devotion in the lives of these 12 women.

Each teacher on the DVD has a different point to make on the basic bible ladies that everyone knows there story. I really like the study of Eve and Mary the mother of Jesus. We used the on a weekly bible study bases and it work well, because each week was a new teaching so if new members came it was easy to be part of the group.

I've been following his blog and podcast for some time and felt I should buy the book to pay respects for value added to my life. Great read, very easy to comprehend with minimal investing knowledge or experience in the markets (I've only studied finance and investing for a year and do not have fortunes invested myself). I enjoyed nearly every section and was able to take away multiple ideas and made a special note to revisit the asset allocation chapter often as time unfolds and my personal accounts grow.

One of my favorites. Incredible number of useful snippets; many new insights, and many carried forward from great investors of the past. Highly recommended for both novices and experienced investors.

This is an excellent book. I have been reading investment books since 1957. I am pretty sure I have read just about all of the "Classics."This book may land on that list down the road. I first took it out of the library. I liked it so much I bought a copy. Now that's a positive review. :)I plan to buy and send a copy of the book to my 2 adult children. This book is clear, concise and very well written.I would also recommend signing up for his daily blog : "A Wealth of Common Sense." It is always an interesting read.....and it is FREE!Mr. Carlson has always responded to my emails. One of the better personal finance/investment books I've read that is full of interesting statistics pertaining to market performance and pragmatic strategies for obtaining a significant return from the market.This book is not necessarily geared to the novice investor because it deals with human psychology as it pertains to investing/personal finance.This book contains a lot of sage advice, e.g., Investment management is a for profit enterprise, i.e., management costs count, management costs can eradicate up to 2/3rds of your equity capital investment portfolio returns over a lifetime!This particular book teaches you to look at the attribute(s) of simplicity versus complexity.Author, Ben Carson, simplicially articulates what no one else has regarding investing/personal finance.

Light investment reading. Enjoyable. Not a lot of meat here but it was well written. His blog is very good. Check it out too.

All in all I like the book. Similar content to others (cost matters, diversification, etc...) but presented differently. Many references to other great books and content. Ideally I would have like to see recommended or sample portfolio allocations; though I think there is hesitation for many writers to go that route due to the unknown consumption of the Information.Nearly all the content covered is also covered by Bogle, Schultheis, Bernstein, and others if you have read the likes of The Coffeehouse investor, The Four Pillars of Investing, Common Sense on Mutual Funds (all highly recommended BTW); albeit a little differently.

Well written solid advice accessible to the literate reader that offers the wisdom of behavioral finance combined with the experiience of an institurional money manager who has retained a student's openness to learning.

This book is a total waste of money. It is a short pamphlet with almost no good information other than a little introduction to Barry Sears. I can't believe he allowed his name to be put in the introduction. The recipes have no connection at all to the food block list and don't even tell the number of servings in each. I thought I was buying an update to the older Zone book I have. I wish I had read the reviews before ordering it.It is already in the trash.

Starting the Zone Diet, looking for recipes. Fortunately my couch told me how many blocks to eat since this book didn't explain any of that. My biggest issue was that the recipes didn't say how many blocks they were. That's the entire premise of the diet and it's lacking that information. Don't purchase this book!

The info in the beginning is really good. I bought this for the recipes and they dont tell the number of servings and/or the amout of blocks for each dish, so not helpful.

Probably the most unfounded writing of a nutrition book I have ever read. Their advice is based on popularity and nothing scientific. I could have written the bulk of the information of this book after doing a 20 min search on google about this diet. I am not discrediting the diet, just this book specifically.

Numerous typos. Recipes have strange ingredients that you must decipher. Recipes do not include how many blocks, so you do have to spend time figuring them which conflicts with the authors claim that using this meal plan n is easy. Quite disappointed in this book.

Awful.... Didn't get past day 1. There is no info as to how many servings each recipe is. The 'crumble' for day 1 uses 3 apples so i doubt it is one server but who knows, no useful info, no nutritional info, if I could ask for a refund i would. EPIC FAIL!!!!!

Whenever I pick up a Sophie Kinsella book, I know certain things. I know the heroine will be fun and interesting and a little chaotic. I know I will laugh. Then, before I know it, I am so caught up emotionally I can hardly breathe. In this book, I had to reassure myself that she wouldn’t take me too far over the edge.She surprised me with the ending. Though I had a suspicion about where it might go, I didn’t see it coming at all. But boy oh boy, was it ever satisfying!There’s a formula to Kinsella’s books, and yet they never feel formulaic. She has a way of keeping things fresh, even though her path is a familiar one. I absolutely loved it.I realize I have written nothing about the plot or the characters. I don’t need to. Read the book. You won’t be sorry.

I don't like to give bad book reviews, and Surprise Me wasn't bad... but it wasn't great. I had to really force myself to keep on reading because it just didn't hold my interest. I almost felt like Sophie Kinsella has regressed with her writing skill, or perhaps she had to force herself to keep on writing and her heart wasn't really in it. I even put it down and read another book in the middle of Surprise Me, which is unheard of for me with a Sophie Kinsella title.My main issue with this book is that it seemed like a lot of different bits glued together. It was disjointed. It dragged in parts. Certain points were given loads of coverage then disappeared so that I forgot about them, only to think later on 'Was that from another book, oh, it was from this book'. Then that long-forgotten part of the story would come back with full force. The premise was thin and drawn out and the main characters seemed immature.I persevered though, a) because I have enjoyed most of Sophie's others books, and b) because I'd paid for it. There's nothing like feeling like you have wasted your money to want to continue. And I am happy to say that the end of the book was satisfying. I'd still give it three stars even with the good ending and would only recommend you read it if you are a die-hard Sophie Kinsella fan.

Happily married husband and wife are told they are in peak physical condition and will probably live another 68 years together. Their reaction? What the hell are we going to do with each other for that long? So they try to surprise each other to keep the relationship fresh. This book was silly and lame. It was as light as a giant vat of cotton candy. In my world, if you have to come up with surprise moves for your spouse, then you aren’t really connected. How exhausting. PS: I’ve been married for 40 years. It’s not perfect but it’s perfectly okay and I adore him.IG: @bookbimbo

I've read all of her books and I'm not quite sure why they are so many bad reviews. While it was not as funny to me as, for example, the Shopaholic series, I still found it to be an interesting book that I did not have to spend pages trying to get into and found it easy to maintain interest until the end. While not as funny, I found her writing in this novel to be a little more profound and down to earth, well, as much as a Sophie Kinsella book is able to be at this point. It's certainly different than many of her past works and I'm OK with watching her evolve as a writer. Well,as long as she throws out one of her hilarious books now and then.I felt that you can gain some insights into the amount of respect and understanding that you have to continually strive for in order to sustain a long term marriage. At over 30 years into it myself, it seemed to me that she was able to show Sylvie and Dan learning to grow and adapt to the constantly changing requirements and needs of both your marriage as well as your partner. It seemed to me that her lighthearted attempt to showcase this kept the novel interesting yet not too preachy as another author may have done.So while it is a humorous attempt, it still does make some valid points to take away with you after the last page.

I really enjoyed Surprise Me. I've enjoyed every book Sophie Kinsella has written, and this was no exception. The reason I took one star off was that I wish more time was spent at Willoughby House, with Clarissa, Robert and Mrs. Kendrick. I also thought the surprises that backfired were hilarious, particularly the boudoir photos. But it got really serious abruptly after that. And I notice that Kinsellla has a type of formula for most of her books, in which the female protagonist gets heartbroken because of a major misunderstanding, and doesn't see the light till it's almost too late. This is certainly true with Sylvie. And the ending always resolves itself so well that it would be unrealistic in real life. Despite these flaws, I recommend this book for any Kinsella fan.

I've read every single book from Sophie Kinsella (some of them multiple times) and LOVE her work! Surprise Me is a fun, delightful read, and I (like many reviewers here) loved the main character's eccentric, quirky, sweet workplace. This book didn't seem to unfold as naturally as some of her other books, but is still a light and enjoyable read with a happy ending.

This book was boring and felt forced almost from the beginning. The essential themes: the issue of how to keep one's marriage interesting, the issue of dealing with grief, and the realities of learning one's human idol has feet of clay -- the last two being tied together. Well, none of them meshed well and the whole thing felt disjointed and I was pulled out of each story line awkwardly to then need to be reminded of the details of the other.The humor felt forced and wasn't really that amusing.And finally the heroine was annoyingly clueless and I soon began to just be irritated rather than amused or touched.This book felt as if the author was melding two draft stories that hadn't worked out individually.Though the themes could have been interesting, this book just fell flat on all fronts. I'd skip it.
