About the Author

Roger Priddy left school at 16 with just one qualification―in art. He went to Berkshire College of Art and Design and trained as an illustrator. His first job in children's books was working with the publisher Peter Usborne, at Usborne Publishing, and then he worked with Peter Kindersley at Dorling Kindersley, where he spent 16 years. Priddy became Creative Director of DK's Children's Division and was Managing Director of the children's mass market publisher Funfax when it was acquired by DK. I purchased this for my three grandchildren. I think it is very important for a child, or anyone for that matter, to learn a second language. My thought was that if it was presented to them in a fun way even when they are very young it would be easier for them as they got older.I began reading it to my two oldest ones as soon as I received it. They seemed very interested and kept their attention right away. The littlest one loved the soft fur touching it and petting it.That enabled me to read the book to her as she was occupied and seemed to be listening. In the end the two oldest ones actually are using some of the Spanish words they learned in the book. I would say it is a 100% success and am thrilled with how the children like it.

I love reading to my kiddos. When my son was younger, I bought him every book you could imagine. My daughter is only a few months old so I wanted to get her something simple with bright colors and was hoping that this book would be full of not only numbers but also cute pictures and especially different textures for her to touch. At her age, it's really good to introduce her to different textures.This book is adorable, but it really only has one kind of texture. My main reason for buying the book was because I thought it was going to be a "touch and feel" book, so I was a tiny bit disappointed. I do like that it is bilingual though.

My baby loves touching the little "grill" on the truck and the "fur" on the dog. She is 10.5 months and is now picking up on the more subtle textures in this book, like the rubbery parts of the ball and the raised glitter bumps on the flower. Kept her occupied on the plane for a whole 10 minutes so I think I got my money's worth already! Love the bilingual words, too.

This book is nice because it has the touchy feely pages, well...some pages are, but there are only 10 pages, the books are VERY small and I don't think they are worth buying, unless you really want 3-4 pages of touchy feely things. But it's nothing compared to the size of the other BeBe Listo books - Trucks, Animals, etc.. The other books have thick board pages and have more than 20 brightly colored pages.

I teach the visually impaired and it was quite easy to adapt this book into braille and adapt the pictures that were not already tactile.

This book says it is "touch and feel" but not all the pages are touch and feel. I wanted something that was very tactile, but some of the pages have objected where the card board is slightly raised or they just added foil paper to give a little more effect. One side will be touch and feel and the other is just cardboard. If it didn't advertise as "touch and feel" I would have given it a higher rating because it does provide counting of objects in Spanish and English. I was not compensated for this review.

Great book at a great price. Very simple book to review daily to help teach numbers. We usually say the numbers then count the items on the page in both english and spanish. It has helped my son with learning how to count and learning the various items on each page.

Great little book for our 16 month old. He likes the pictures and different touch and feel textures then we have seen before. Not much into the Spanish yet, but I know he will be soon.

This book is a must buy for all those inspiring game makers out there. I really got my money’s worth out of it. The book covers all the skills needed to create a full game from start to finish and gives example and code throughout. Unlike what the title says, it took me longer than a weekend to finish. I do not mind the extra time as I feel it added value to the book. The most time consuming part of the project for me was the making the different maps. The book offers the ability to download the maps from their website, but I wanted to make them myself. Again, this added to my enjoyment of the book. A negative about the maps in the book is that they are small and in black and white. For most thing, B&W is okay, but for the maps, they should have been larger and in color. I had to resort to looking on the internet for the map images. I found them, and although they were also small, they were in color and that helped.The book takes you through the development of the game by making two towns. The starting town and a hidden town the players find via a quest of sorts. There are 6 levels to the dungeon crawler presented in the book. The book teaches you how to make new characters, items, weapons, and even spells. The book not only tells you how to do it, it offers minor suggestions on how you could improve on what is in the book.The main game from the book is built solely from what is available in the basic game. There is a chapter at the end of the book that talks about how to improve the game with add-in scripts and other neat ideas, if you so desire.Overall I like this book a lot and recommend you pick it up if you enjoy making games and you want to know how to use the tools available with RPG Maker MV.

I almost didn't buy this book because of some of the negative reviews, I would have missed out on an excellent teaching tool. I have zero exp with rpg maker mv BUT I had an idea about the rpg I wanted to make and how I wanted it to work. I read the book cover to cover in a few hours and while reading it I had my own game in mind. I watched the author work through things I wanted to do. I am going to start building my game and will be leaning heavily on this book for reference as I still technically have no exp.

Its an easy to follow guide that get you started very quickly. Before you know it your already off track and creating things all on your own.

I got this book as part of the Humble Code Your Own Games bundle, and, man, I am glad I only paid $1 for it. RPG Maker MV can be more than a little obtuse and difficult to follow, but I'm sad to say this book only makes it worse.First and foremost, it seems like the book's editor was asleep on the job, because the book is absolutely packed full of digressions, half-formed thoughts, and constant references to RPG Maker VX Ace, the previous version of the software that has no bearing on the 'tutorials' at hand. This would be bad enough in any non-fiction book, but it's especially frustrating for a book that is supposed to be teaching you how to use a piece of software. Clarity should be the primary goal of anything designed as a tutorial, and this book has absolutely none of that.It is almost like the book is a direct transcription of what the author was saying as they messed around with the software, no editing, no revising for clarity, nothing.Every 'lesson' in the book goes like this: the author vaguely describes how to do something (usually with a reference to how RPG Maker VX Ace was better or different) without any explanation for why you should be doing it or what you're actually making. He then says "then do it some more for the other things like this" and then we're back onto another digression.I'll share with you the line that broke me and made me decide going further with this book was not worth my time. I should point out this was on page 12:"Anyway, let’s get back to working on our transfer events. I believe we were about to make the exterior transfer event. This time, let’s use one of my favorite transfer event trimming devices: the Parallel trigger."It's like having an absentminded professor fumble his way through a half-remembered lesson he taught twenty years ago. I should point out that at this point in the 'tutorial' I had literally just been introduced to Transfer Events and didn't have any real comprehension on what they were used for...now the author is sharing his own work-around to mess with the program's built-in event handling process.It's a shame that there are not many good tutorial resources for RPG Maker MV, as it seems like a nice, powerful program for making RPGs. It's also a shame that Apress would have the gall to publish this incomprehensible mess of a book.

This latest installment of the Ben Hood series features all of the humor and action we have come to expect from this author, but Blue Diamond also boasts a haunting sense of suspense throughout that makes the story even more enjoyable. I loved the variety of characters the author uses to populate his books and this one is no exception, and the unexpected turns made me stay up late to finish the story. If you enjoy a mystery with twists and surprises from start to finish, give this book a chance. And plus, we get to see Rodney in trouble for once! Bravo, sir.

This is one of the better written books in a really well written series. Again Ben Hood faces danger and again he survives. Drew Lindsay also includes a nice, true history lesson as Ben goes after the famed Blue Diamond. This is a very fast paced page turner with much excitement and several beautiful women to provide both thrills and danger for Ben. This is a not to be missed Ben Hood book. Lindsay has written another very entertaining story.

Oh my goodness! I cannot believe that Drew Lindsay can keep this series so intriguing. This book had several layers of mystery. I love the way that Hood's character continues to let us know more about his deeper side. Part of this book has Hood fighting a very real current enemy that is in our world today. The other part is historically accurate. I only have one correction for Mr. Lindsay: Snow does make a sound when it falls.

This is the third Ben Hood adventure that I have read, and I loved it. The humorous exchanges between Ben and others are laugh out loud funny, especially the back and forth between Ben and his boss. The action was intense and believable. The ending was beautifully written. I am now getting ready to start a new Ben Hood novel. To Mr. Drew Lindsay, thank you.

Really enjoyed this book, as Ben Hood solves another of his mysteries. Very easy reading and good ending. Hope you enjoy it as much and I did.

Another great read - I've just finished the latest from this author & really enjoyed it...the series has been really enjoyable & I am constantly checking to see when the next book comes out...I'm hooked

Idiotic and boring dialogue through out the whole book. Did start to peak my interest as the book ended, but in reality I was glad that it was finished. I have enjoyed all of his Ben Hood series' books, but I feel he took advantage of such a situation of anyone having read many of his books. I doubt that he needs to write anymore if this is the quality he is putting out now.

Wonderful book. I loved the characters .......alive and dead........ Would highly recommend this book.

About the Author

A K Nicholas is an art photographer from the United States who specializes in figurative imagery. A diverse background and traditional art education prompted him to develop a unorthodox aesthetic that blends sensual imagery with a painterly style of manipulated colors. He was introduced to art through museum visits and other cultural experiences in Europe, America, Africa, and Asia. Growing up the Middle East, he saw how women's bodies were hidden from public view, In stark contrast Europeans mostly lacked prudishness. Compare those to the US, where we have a bifurcated culture: half of us celebrate our beauty while the other half shuns it. He did not become interested in art until high school. Taking a surrealism art history class, he realized he could explore art that interested him and began learning painting. His initial training with the nude was figure drawing while studying art in college. His first nude shoot was a complete surprise to him when a classmate in college assumed that his invitation to model meant for her to be nude. Although trained in drawing and painting, photography became his concentration by the conclusion of his art degree. Following art school, he put in his dues clerking and staffing the darkroom of a camera store. In the decades following his first shoot, he has photographed hundreds of nude models for pictorial books, limited edition prints, and his instructional books. In recent years he has dedicated himself full time to being an artist. He collaborates with models to create alternate realities, on what he calls "a journey with no known destination." With his passion for sharing knowledge, he writes to help you learn from his experience, including how to avoid some common mistakes and to encourage your creativity.

this three volume original printing of the florida edition of "Tristram Shandy" is considered the definitive text. if the price doesn't appeal and your interest in the book is casual, you can find the text as a penguin paperback.this is one among the most revolutionary works of fiction ever written. it is still, today, an enormously innovative book. as a story it is mere "cock and bull" -- it says so in the last sentence -- but as writing it is over the top anarchic. if there exists any rule of fiction, or of rhetoric, or of writing, or of reader expectations, or chronology or description, then sterne goes out of his way to violate, disappoint, parody, misuse or flout it. i had to read over a quarter of the book before i realized that the writer was much more intelligent than i was giving him credit for. initially there is the confusing distance of language and historical references and patron dedications and such that makes you wonder, "is that supposed to be funny?", but i stopped sneezing at the book when i realized the author was continually throwing pepper in my face, and laughing while doing so.there is a precedent for TS in the gargantuan humor of rabelais, and in the rabelaisian method of distorting narrative consistency and scale; toby's military models might easily be the work of a giant. and there's a transparent tribute to cervantes in the character of dr. slop, riding around on a small horse like sancho panza on his mule.but a huge amount of the content of the book is in the orthography of font faces and dashes and rows of asterisks, blank pages or marbled pages or entirely black pages, squiggly lines and chapters one sentence long. the work was originally published as eight volumes with separate chapter numbering in each; it has typically been republished with modernized spelling and punctuation, loosely reproduced orthography, with chapters numbered continuously. all this brings into focus that a lot of sterne's innovations are technical, and he was a scrupulous proofreader of every first edition.the florida edition restores all of that, or claims to, and my only complaint about the volume 3 of notes is that it came in a different binding, a uniform coarse blue cloth rather than leather spine and decorative hard cover. i've accepted it as a happenstance example of life's whimsical anarchy, mr. sterne would understand.

Can't praise this book enough! It's packed with delicious phrases, 20-dollar words and plenty of humor. Written in the 1700s, it was thought of by many critics, decades later, as roughly, the first novel. A delightful read, but you won't do it in a day!

Great book. Early precursor to modern lit, even post-modern with its wry tone, author intrusion, apparent wandering mind/free-range consciousness. All good fun. Actually haven't finished it yet, and the tone and other aspects may change--one of the delightful uncertainties for me--but I'm having a great time getting there.

One of very favorite novels. Rather dense prose common to the era. One of the funniest pieces of writing I have ever read. This book is definitely not for everyone. The style of writing and the plot are very different from modern novels. Browse through the first page or two before buying, as that gives you an idea of what you will be reading, and see if it fits your taste.

This is the third time in 55 years that I've read Tristram Shandy and it gets better every time. This edition was best of all because it has the extensive notes in the back explaining the humor in many cases. Jokes in 1760 sometimes don't go over so well in 2016. The notes are essential and made me appreciate Laurence Sterne all the more.

This is perhaps the oddest book ever written with the author jumping in & out of the story. Lines like "Both of our characters have fallen asleep, which is good because it gives me time to discuss my uncle's fascination with fortifications."Thomas Jefferson's favorite book. Very quirky, very funny.

I am a bit torn when it comes to this book. The writing is absolutely beautiful-- Aspen is truly talented and gifted when it comes to penning words. Her descriptions and observations are so sharp when they're objective that it feels like you're standing there with her. People spend decades honing the kind of voice and talent that rises naturally to her.I started out empathizing a lot with our narrator. Her mother sounds like classic waif-type BPD. My step-mom was a witch type but I understood the stifling, unhealthy pressure that Aspen had to operate under, the damage that a lifetime from birth of being overly cocooned so you doubt your own abilities to an insane degree.I kept turning the pages and looking for growth as she progressed along the trail and I did not find it. I find that disappointing. Aspen apparently found it in herself but what I saw was a woman hungry for male validation seek it until she found it. Did she think she was the only woman on the trail who had been raped or molested? Did she think she was the only one hurting?Her treatment of fellow women on the trail is abhorrent. She reduces them to sexual desirability and then writes off the men who may care for them as "losers", as if everyone out there is slavish to sexual approval the way she is. It's debasing not just to the women who were on the PCT that year, it's debasing to the men who she assumed were unable to care for women outside of their sexual output. Aspen only tentatively grasped at the very end of her journey what a trail family is, but leading up she had nothing but derision, suspicion, and hatred for the women who had their own. The kindest things she said about women on the trail was when she said nothing at all. That is not the fault of those women, but the fault of Aspen.Aspen forgives her family and it was cathartic to see that, but in the end she's still the very self-centered, overly judgmental person she started out as. Expecting everyone to shower her with empathy while providing exactly none. As beautiful as her writing is, I never got the impression that her thoughts ever strayed to the plight, feelings, and being of other people.I am not surprised she was not welcome in the groups that form up along the trail. She started her hike a marred woman and she ended it a marred woman. She tries to present like she healed and came out stronger.. I think that's an enormous lie. Maybe in some ways she came out stronger, but she left the woods the same as she entered-- reliant upon the validation of men no matter how toxic, at the expense of other women. This is a sad book, and it's all the sadder because I don't think the author realizes how sad it is.

As previous reviewers mention, this is not the story of self-discovery and self-reliance that one might hope for. In reading the description, I was hopeful that this would be a memoir about the recovery of a young woman who had experienced a trauma and went to the woods to heal. That isn't really this book. Aspen spends the majority of the text seeking male approval from nearly every man she meets on the trail and desperately looking for validation, which doesn't do much for the "girl power" aspirations of the premise.I want to stress the privilege that Aspen has to experience the PCT the way she does and to survive. Often it is from sheer dumb luck or the benevolence of others, but her primary privilege comes from the generosity and kindness of her parents. Yes, they didn't react in the perfect way when she told them about her rape, but they also spent thousands of dollars on her journey of self-exploration and she appears terribly ungrateful. I also find it frustrating that the end of the text focuses on Aspen changing her relationship with her parents, which is a theme that appears nearly out of thin air. Obviously they are flawed, but by drawing attention to them Aspen only highlights her flaws.This of course brings up the point that Aspen as a character is often deeply unlikable. I began the book feeling empathetic towards her and ended it being annoyed. She makes decisions that put her in danger, speaks down to most of the folks she meets on the trail, and generally doesn't take responsibility for her actions. She places much of the blame for her problems on her mother's coddling and the trauma that she experienced, never taking accountability. As far as character development, there is some, but it wasn't really as dramatic as I would have liked. I was really hoping she would come out the end of the trail as self-reliant, responsible, mature, and aware of her privilege. I desperately wanted her to show her parents some gratitude. Apparently that was too much to ask. Additionally, while there are some moments of beautiful prose, I found the writing to reflect the writer's immaturity and inexperience.

After reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed, I was really looking forward to this book. I was hugely disappointed and found this book to be one of the worst books I have read in years. I am only giving it one star as you can't give zero or even 1/2 stars. How can this book be so awful? A woman goes on a treacherous hike clearly unprepared mentally and physically. Not only that, but she does everything she says she's not going to do! She wants to go to a big pre-hike event - writes about how much she's looking forward to it and then skips it because she meets a random guy she finds cute? This after being raped by a random guy. Seriously!? She wants to hike alone but stays with this boy and another man. The other boy is clearly sexist and racist but never ever says anything to him? Wow. She keeps writing she wants to be alone but is constantly - CONSTANTLY looking for boys (after she dumps boy #1) and sex and people to hike with. Unreal. I understand she went on this hike to sort herself out after the rape, but she continuously put herself in dangerous situations and I found myself not having any sympathy for her whatsoever. You are hiking a serious trail without serious food or a compass? You know you are out of water but don't ask for some from someone who has plenty? This read more like a psychotic's romance adventure novel than a memoir. Please skip this and read Wild instead. Absolutely horrible.
