First, I like Dennis Prager, I like his style and his intelligence. In this case, although I've not finished it yet, he, like thousands of others, thinks he may have put a nail in the "why" of antisemitism. Antisemitism is a "nice" way of saying what it really is, Jew Hate.Just as our black and other minorities, back when it was legal, I've had doors slammed in my face--literally--when they discovered that my "church" was a synagogue. I've had the honor of being kicked off a "whites only" beach even though I AM white, but there are still elements out there that think we're a race from some other planet.I've been told that I couldn't possibly be Jewish, I don't have horns! No, I'm not kidding, it happened in some tiny town in Oklahoma. Dr. Prager, I think he's got a Ph.D., tries to pin down the bottom line causes of Jew hate, but I personally believe he's got some wriggle room in his book.Overall, it is excellently written and definitely a book for everyone to read, Jewish or not. Being Jewish is fun, particulary when I hear how rich we all are (I got wiped out in 2008) but I don't even get $20,000 a year from Social Security. How smart we all are. I've met some pretty dense Jewish people. How we can just go to the "Jew Bank" and get money for whatever we need. Oh boy, I certainly would wish THAT was true...but it isn't.Jew hate is the oldest hate on the planet, even before we were blamed for Jesus' execution for the crime of sedition, as the Romans felt he was. Despite all of the downside of being able to track my lineage to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel) I'd not change a single thing.Thanks, Dennis, you did a good job.

I was hoping this book would be good when I first received it, and it has only surpassed my expectations.The art is great, and the contents are terrific. Each letter of the alphabet contains both a short, easily quipped line to read / recite, as well as a long, detailed explanation of the history of that event for those curious minds who might want to learn more. Of course, there is also accompanying art, which is very nice.I don't think this is for the very little kids, but any young learner who is also interested in baseball (and specifically the Red Sox) would likely very much appreciate this book. I know this would have kept me very entertained as a little one.I highly recommend this book - especially as a gift for a Red Sox fan to be - and have since gone out and purchased two other copies for friends with children who are on their way to joining Red Sox Nation.Definitely a five star product in my book!

Once again, another Red Sox stocking stuffer put away in a carton until Christmas time. I did peek through this book and it was written and illustrated beautifully. Just love it and the little boy who receives this from Santa Claus will love it too.

My husband is a big Red Sox fan so I bought this book as a gift from our daughter, who's a newborn. I liked that you could read it on multiple levels - just the ABC's when she's little, or read the info on the sides for more in depth info when she's older.

What a nice thing to finally see, a book that might preserve many recipes of the south that may disappear someday. Having travelled extensively in Campagna and Calabria I was a bit disappointed to see many recipes missing from this book that attempts to cover regions far too grande to give adequate attention to all of the fabulous recipes that are so very unique to these regions. I was excited to get it but disappointed to miss so many dishes I had sampled at the homes of family and friends. Overall a very nice book with lots of photos but barely scratching the surface of the exciting foods of the south.

I loved Katie Parla's first book Tasting Rome and was so excited to receive Foods of the Italian South. So excited, apparently, that I accidentally ordered it on two separate occasions and, to my surprise, received two on release day. The more the merrier! Each page is a perfect blend of history, culture and cuisine. Katie highlights recipes born out of necessity and the south's desire to make the most of any ingredient, while always educating the reader on the impact Italy's history has had on food. It will surely inspire you to visit southern Italy, and definitely to taste the foods from the region. I can't wait to cook my way through it, likely starting with the robust pasta section. :D

Another absolutely beautiful and thoughtful book by Katie Parla. We absolutely loved her first book, Tasting Rome, and found her recipes to be really accessible and easy to follow. Same here with Food of the Italian South. We can't wait to get cooking! We love how Katie weaves in tales of her own family's history and journey - stories so many of us with similar roots can relate to - throughout the book. The book is well researched - no doubt from her laborious travels through the region. The book is both cookbook and a guidebook to overlooked places. She honors the people she has met along her travels with such beautiful stories and photos...I found myself laughing and smiling and crying. If you love food, history, travel and discovering new and old tastes, you will love this book. Brava!

After much anticipation, Taste of the Italian South arrived yesterday. Having traveled the region and spending time in Basilicata, I couldn’t wait to have a book that unwrapped the culinary wonders of the region. It did not disappoint. I spent much of the evening reading through the stories and recipes and have started to craft my cooking plan. The book is organized well and the recipes highlight the region in a wonderful and thoughtful way. Items like a simple Frittata al Fiori are sure to land on a mother’s day brunch while Cicatielli con Pulieio will add a refreshing yet spicy pasta to my mid day meal. If you are a fan of Italian cooking and have not explored this region, Katie Parla’s book is an excellent place to start the journey.

Simply adore this book! Katie brings the Italian South to life through her stories and recipes - have read it cover to cover and can't wait to cook from all those dog-eared pages. So wonderful to see this mostly overlooked area of Italy come alive in these pages. And she even has a recipe for the illusive Liquirizia for which I have been searching since spending a week in Calabria - long summer nights spent overlooking the sea sipping this amazing digestivo for hours after dinner. Grazie for bringing back that wonderful memory!

Katie combines superior research with an unmatched natural understanding of people, food, and the culture they craft for themselves. Tasting Rome was an instant crowd pleaser and this is a perfect addition the collection. Beautifully art directed, elegantly and approachably written, and filled cover to cover with mouthwatering food inspiration.

I have many cookbooks at home and find this to be the best I have seen, the insight into the regions and people is great to read and the recipes are easy to follow, if you own any cookbooks, this must be part of your library

I'll consider making this required reading for any men pursuing leadership in my local church setting. Ryle doesn't stroke your ego or tell you what you want to hear. Gird your loins (thanks King Jimmy for this saying!), he's gonna talk to you like a man! He'll tell you what you need to hear. You're a young foolish man filled with sin and you're on the high road to hell. Thankfully, there is a grace in Jesus to turn back on this road, Ryle helps you find that way back through Jesus. Good stuff, very convicting.

Highly recommended for every young man to read and heed the exhortations given by Pastor Ryle. Great book for fathers to go through with the boys as well. Pass it on to the next generation.

I found this book to be quite useful. Having just gone through a job search myself - I can attest that the tips that Dan provides will definitely help people land a better job. A few things I liked in particular about the book:1. The writing is straightforward and clear, which makes it easy to understand the concepts and put them into practice.2. Dan provides a host of free resources (resume templates, check-list, list of action words, etc.) that makes making changes to your resume easier - these resources were probably worth the price of the book by themselves3. The evidence provided in the book for why I should approach different aspects of my resume a certain way4. The level of detail put into explaining each aspect of developing a resume - helping to paint a clear picture of exactly how to structure each componentOverall, just a great value!

Dan's book is to the point. There is no fluff in this. He tells you what to do, why you are doing it and he provides real-world examples that can be copied directly into your text. The templates are useful and what I loved the most -- NO UPSELLING!!! Most authors want you to buy their book and while you are reading, you learn about their course that you must have to go to the next level. Dan does not do that. Clean, practical, direct. We purchased this book a few weeks back thanks to Voddie Baucham's recommendation in his book Family-Driven Faith (another wonderful book, I will add).If you aren't familiar with this book, it's based off the Westminster Shorter Catechism, and it's a family catechism that takes about 5-10 minutes (depending on if you discuss more) each day. Each week (yes, week) you go over ONE question (there are 104 questions... it's a 104 week devotional). Then from Monday to Saturday you have short devotions that deal directly with each question as well as other Scripture readings that support the Q&A. What I really appreciate about this catechism is it's meant for parents teaching children, so the language is really easy to understand even for younger children (my daughter is 4). It also helps comprehension of each Q&A because it's something that is discussed for an entire week. Sure, younger kids won't grasp the important concepts, I'm sure, but they surely do learn to memorize. Some people frown upon this, but I do not. Kids learn through repetition, and though we did have a concern with this at first, we are finding that our daughter is very much learning the concepts and applying them. No, she is young, so it isn't like she's the next great theologian, but she is making the connections. And really, if we want to REALLY make the argument about being afraid that the kids will just repeat and learn nothing, can we not apply this same concept to adults? Do adults not do the same in many situations? I don't think I really have to answer this question. (See: Catholic church masses.)My ONLY slight critique (nothing worth removing a star), is I really wish the Scripture proofs were included with the overall Q&A. I ended up buying a cheap pamphlet for the Scripture proofs that was $1.50 here on Amazon with Prime Shipping. Let me explain: in most cases, the Scripture proofs ARE included, but they are included in the devotional sections, but they aren't actually linked to the questions; there is no place that points to that specific verse being the Scripture proof of the Q&A. This can easily be resolved through a quick Google search and a pencil, but I would've assumed that would be pretty standard. Of course, this book seems to be more of a devotional type of catechism, but would still love to see the proofs (labeled clearly AS proofs as well) included. Doesn't deter from the content, though.If you are serious about training your child in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, I highly, highly recommend this. It's one of our favorite resources we have found.

This book provides the guidance needed for consistent family devotions. The Shorter Catechism questions are broken down into daily, bite-size segments that are small enough to keep the attention of younger children, but meaty enough to engage older children and adults. The only thing that I would change is the updating of the language; we prefer the original.If you're looking for a devotional resource to use with your whole family, Starr Meade has written an excellent book that will keep your family in the word of God.

Content provides a structured approached, based on the Westminster Shorter Catechism, to teach my teen boys about the nature and ways of God. We do the devotions 4 to 5 days per week. Sometimes I combine the narratives with content from elsewhere. Sometimes we'll go through 6 days of devotional material in 3 days. Bottom line is that this book is an excellent resource for family devotions, especially families new to the Reformed tradition.

Training Hearts Teaching Minds has been a tremendously helpful resource to introduce the Westminster Shorter Catechism to my four-year-old. The questions and answers have been written in modern English (I felt like the original was a bit tough for my daughter's age), and there is a short daily devotional for each Q/A set. By short, I'm talking about 5 minutes a day or so. By the end of the week, my daughter usually has both question and answer memorized. This is so much easier, more edifying, more productive, and more fun than spending 5 minutes a day just drilling on the questions and answers. I don't have any experience using this devotional with older kids, but my sense is that parents of tweens and teens could use the short devotions as a jumping off point for discussion. The author includes related scripture references as well, which also aid in broadening and deepening the discussion. Highly recommended by this mom!

Just so you know - this book is based on the Westminster Shorter Catechism. Some of the questions are Reformed in nature, but on the whole, the questions just deal with good theology any Christian can agree with and enjoy.This book is so good! We have been doing it for about two weeks and have really enjoyed it. There is nothing like hearing my five year old and my almost 3 year old reciting the questions and knowing what man's primary purpose is (to glorify God and enjoy Him forever). If you are looking for a good family devotional, look no further. The questions and answers are short. Sometimes, we have to explain the words the author uses or use substitutions for our girls, but it isn't a big deal at all. We really like this one.

This has been an incredible resource for a family new to the Reformed faith. The kids (ages 6-13) are eager to interact with the teachings. I am very pleased with the foundation this book presents--much more substantial (yet approachable) than expected. Would love for this to be available in a Kindle edition.
