It is tale of b list heroes looking to make a difference. It's got a healthy dose of humor and action. It is set in the same universe as the house of dolls series and even has some cameos from familiar characters. It was a great read.

I rarely leave anything but 5's across the board for HC,as I really love his work. But this one took me a while to get into it. I am glad I did stick with it. I am really looking forward to the next one.

We Could Be Hero's is a quirky, funny superhero story with a bit of GameLit mixed in for adults who like a little spice and a lot of action. This book has the beginnings of a harem in it, so if that isn't your thing, you may want to pass. If you enjoy the author's other books though, you will love this one! It ties in with another of his series, but it can also be enjoyed independently.Contains graphic sex scenes and harem elements. Not for kids.I received a complimentary advance copy of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I enjoyed how this book started to fill in more of the world and how the non exemplars are treated. I received a advanced readers copy to this book for a honest review. Overall the characters and plot was good. I actually prefer this story over the HOD main books. These characters are more likeable and interesting with more drive to do good to me. The author kept me engaged with these characters and the advancement of the story was good. Overall I recommend this book to those that enjoy superhero books.

A brand new series from the maestro of prolific writing, but much underrated, Harmon Cooper, who always has a way with words, especially when it comes to the female form, "a curvaceous woman with enough breastery to go around." That made my husband and I laugh out loud.The book begins with non-exemplar Sam's crime catching up with him. I won't tell you what he was caught doing, but I'll just remind you that this book is based in the same world as 'House of Dolls' and that should be a hint enough. And so begins our tale...I really enjoyed this 'first' and can't wait for the rest of the series to be released. I have no hesitation in recommending this to any new reader who wants to try a wee bit of this author. All the characters are great, but I love Dinah, Lance, and the ever so cool, Helena. Zoe is the most 'human' character as she goes through so many emotions: love; jealousy; sadness; heartbreak; betrayal; wanting to look like something other than she is. She is such an honest person - too honest, sometimes, as she doesn't have an off switch for her mouth - and so damn gallus!A well-written and well-told story, funny, with action a-plenty, so entertaining, and - of course - there are nods to Cooper's other excellent series.I chose to receive an early ecopy of this book, which I voluntarily read and honestly reviewed. All opinions are my own.

This book is built on a fascinating premise about 3 people who didn’t have an Exemplar level power, and one who needed a smack in the face to find out he could smell everything. The characters are interesting, and the dynamics between them look very promising. However, the way the story is written is very disjointed, and it takes way too long to settle down.

If you're a fan of HC's writing then grabbing this one should be a no brianer. Lots of great action scenes and characters with enough backstory to make you interested in them and drag you deeper into the book. This story takes place within the same universe that House of Dolls does and has references within that would otherwise be overlooked if you haven't already read it. So, if you haven't read HoD first you'd be missing out on an awesome series as well as insight into this universe. Great read, looking forward to the next one!

I got very little done for 2 days and didn't get much sleep for 2 nights...it was THAT hard to put down! Quite a page-turner.For those who say it was confusing...good heavens, there were only 5 main characters to keep up with! Each timeline was contiguous...with alternating chapters. I cheated a couple of times and skipped to the next chapter featuring that character, because I couldn't stand the suspense. But don't do that towards the end because the timelines do converge at that point.Good characterization, believable premise, excellent style of writing, and a steady pace...overall, very well-written!I have only 2 complaints:1. Very poorly edited. There were a number of places where a small word was just missing, or the wrong form of a word was used... stuff like that...in addition to grammatical errors which most people won't notice.. I hope the author gets a better editor for the next edition. Not bad enough to get in the way of enjoying the story...just some minor annoyances that made the reading a bit choppy in places.2. The endings of a couple of the timelines were a bit over the top, like he throwing in everything but the kitchen sink! It was a bit much and unnecessary. (But it didn't bother me enough to dock any stars.) The 2 main timelines that I was the most interested in had very satisfying endings.3. MINOR SPOILER ALERT! (Not really...I will try to just hint)Authors choosing to write about psychopaths should get better educated about the fact that true psychopaths have a brain disorder and canNOT change...they do NOT have a conscience and cannot love anyone, because they aren't physically capable of true emotions, and No amount of love will cure them. I enjoyed it and will definitely check out other books by this author.

Somewhat entertaining, but mostly silly. An original, intriguing idea, that I was excited to sink my teeth into but that was pretty much where my excitement ended. A bore to read, with one-dimensional characters, none of who I gave a hoot about. I ended up skimming most of the chapters, and I guarantee I didn’t miss anything, as most of the twists, and so-called cliff-hanger chapter endings, I saw coming a mile away. There was one twist around the 80% mark that was a good one, but little consequences came of it by the end of the book. And it wasn’t psychological disturbing, or suspenseful in any way – definitely a contemporary romance/domestic drama. Very disappointing! I’m just glad it was cheap to buy. Such a shame as I was really looking forward to this one having recently read, and enjoyed, ‘The Good Samaritan’.

The characters were well developed as in all Marrs books, as was the writing style and engrossing plotlines. My problem w/the book was there were too many characters which gets a bit confusing & hard to follow. That and my dislike of several characters made it irritating at times. Not as good as his last 3 books. So it was disappointing in those aspects. Maybe my expectations were too high compared to his prior books. I neither recommend nor not reccomend this book, another reader may find it very entertaining and suspenseful. This is only my personal opinion.

I liked this book. I was recommended it from the Dear Sugars podcast. I thought the idea behind it was fascinating. In some respects, I had always wondered if there was something like the gene discovered in the book existed.So this spurred me into reading the book. I just found a lot of it kind of... Stereotypical, I guess. Also, Spoilers from here on.Like when Jade went to see Kevin I felt like I had already guessed what would happen-- and then, surprise, I was right. What I found worse was, Jade chose to stay with the person who lied to her despite her character being opposite to that. I just don't like love conquers all as a resolution-- it seems forced and untrue and extremely dangerous. The stories where love is hard and difficult and forgiveness is hard feel more fulfilling to me. All Jade's story and some of Mandy's (I think that was her name) story were like this. In Alex and Nick's story, I was much more satisfied with the outcome because they struggled, but like even still I thought the idea of two until then straight men becoming gay in like three chapters was silly.The focus on more than one character is inevitably the downfall of this book. Some ideas need more than a brief glance, others don't need as much insight as they seemed to get in a chapter.There's a serial killer that gets this buildup that's huge and yet, his death is so blasé and his story is generic. He's sort of like Dexter, except he falls in love. And this book is about love, so that's fine, but it kind of felt like in one chapter, he found his Match amusing and then suddenly he loved her. I was surprised by the turnaround. I don't find him very different from other psychopathic serial killers in novels, so... I don't really know why he rubbed me so wrong. It needed more to be deeply investigated, but I don't even know if this would have been interesting.I thought most if the other stories were interesting, with Ellie's being the outlier. Her story was basically a fairy tale until this the guy revealed himself and I was totally enraptured by that. I really didn't like that it ended the way it did, but, it is what it is. I would have enjoyed learning more about her, though.There were plenty of characters who were just flat out unlikable, but not in a good villain way. I mean characters who existed solely as an awful human being in an unrealistic way. I thought, for instance, Richard's mother and sister we're flat out insane, but worse, that his Match went to his "funeral" and never asked a single question to his friends about who he was. She just accepted his mother and sister's opinions as facts. What person does that? Tim was similar but at least he made up a life and Ellie looked into it and it checked out.All in all, I don't hate this book but I don't love it, and it's good, but it's not eye opening it amazing. It's a book I'd probably never revisit but I could recommend it to someone. It's alright.

The product I received is what I expected. I didn't have any issues similar to others, as my map was not creased. However, my map edges are frayed or splitting. It appears to be new. If I was looking for a map to put in a frame, this one was not it, but since I want to use it, it will work well. When I read the map was laminated, I thought it would have a thick plastic coating. The laminated part is a very sheer coating that is only on the top. If you get it near water, I expect it will absorb the water very quickly, but it can be kept pretty clean with a little effort. It will meet my needs and desires completely, but maybe not others.

Map is the size as described. Quality feels good. However it is a laminated map that arrived with creases. Poor packaging....I just lowered the rating to one star. I was unable make the map flat. Shipping Completly ruined it.

This National Geographic laminated map of China is perfect for my intended use. It arrived rolled in its original shrink wrap, well padded in a box which was significantly larger than the roll. Adding another small item to my order allowed me free shipping, making it a great deal even when paying the list price. The map itself is the excellent quality expected of National Geographic products, with sturdy lamination. While I do not recommend the laminated version for travel use due to obvious folding issues, it is excellent for planning purposes or wall hanging.

First, I should point out that while I sympathize with the disappointment of the previous reviewer, his review does NOT describe THIS map.I'm not sure if he wrote his review under the wrong product heading or what, but this is the same as all other National Geographic wall maps, with the full image on one side and blank white space on the other.My only minor gripe with all of the NatGeo maps is that I would prefer the paper stock be a little heavier/thicker, but for the price, I really can't complain. All in all, a very nice, detailed map with a beautifully rendered image.

I would have preferred a fold up map. Didn't realize that it was in a tube----however as long as I am writing this map came with another purchase in the same box and I thought that it was very poorly and sloppily packaged. No damage so I have no complaint other then to inform you that you may want to check on your packaging department.

i have undertaken an extensive review of chinese history and a map is essential to this study. it is also helpful to examinethe pinyin transcriptional methods. the map is 1:8,000,000 scale, but contains stunning detail of towns and geographicfeatures. i keep it handy to examine local events in the history as i come across them, and, with the use of coordinates,i find locations easily on this map. it serves as a good overview as more detail would require a smaller scale.

In both English and Chinese, easy to read and navigate for the home traveler. We dry-mounted it on foam core and mounted it to the wall. We use color coded flag pins to indicate each family travels in China. We go often w/home in Guangzhou. Excellent quality that rivals the finest maps I've ever seen in Europe and Asia. Seller shipped them quickly in quality protective packaging.TNX!

Much too small for a country as large as China. This needs to be at least 50% larger and preferably 100% larger. At this size the city names are almost overrunning each other and it's difficult to see much map detail other than the names.

As a Postulant for Holy Orders, this book tells me everything I need to know about where to stand, how to read the Gospel, when the bishop takes off his/her mitre, and anything else I might need to know as a deacon within a service of worship. Plater does a wonderful job of walking the reader through each type of service within the Book of Common Prayer and the Prayer Book of the Anglican Church of Canada. He also provides additional resources for continuing education. This is a very readable, short book that will be a "go to" resource for me for years to come.

DEACONS IN THE LITURGY is written for Anglicans/Episcopalians in North America. As such, it will be of interest primarily to people of that communion. That does not stop it from having a wider appeal.What this book does so well and so simply is explain the role of the diaconate in the various liturgies of the church. It tells what to do and when to do it providing an expansion to the rubrics of the BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER. It does not delve very much into history but does bring history up to justify certain acts. It explains the diaconal functions from an ancient and ecumenical context and then makes some provision for modern practice and usage. At all stages, the relevant passages from the BCP and other US and Canadian resources are referenced. It is a great guide for Anglican deacons but it has more potential as well.Without explicitly saying so, the book describes many functions that have wider acceptance than just the Anglican Communion. Usually, these are evident by the lack of specific citations but they should be readily apparent to anyone with a passing knowledge of liturgy. This helps to differentiate denominational practice from wider practice and this book is simple enough, short enough and well written enough to be of use to others. This is especially true for United Methodists.The United Methodist Church revived the permanent diaconate in 1996. Since the most recent BOOK OF WORSHIP was published in 92, it has no knowledge of deacons in liturgical functions. They are left to founder or make things up as they go along. The institutional United Methodist Church needs to address this problem but this book would be an excellent stopgap measure for UM deacons. This is especially true since UM liturgy is inherited from the Church of England.A Must for Deacons!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this powerful little volume. It made clear the need of and the functionality of Deacons in the worship life of every congregation. As a bishop I learned much that, unfortunately, I didn’t already know. I’m going to meet with my Deacons and Remedy many things in our relationships and worship leading capacities.

This is an excellent book to explain the duties of the deacon at eucharist. Also ordination. Highly recommend.

This is the definitive book on the role of a deacon in the liturgy as prescribed in the Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal Church. Not only does Deacon Plater outline the function of diaconal ministry in the liturgy, but also describes the significance of these functions historically, theologically, and symbolically. Should be required reading for all deacons, but priests and bishops as well.

This small book provides important information about what deacons do. You'll also learn names of liturgical garments that you never knew existed. Also, learn where deacons place their stoles.That was new to me.I would have liked a bit about what it's like to be a deacon but that's a book someone else will write or maybe already has.

I finally found the book i was looking for. It has a lot of good info in a small package. I wish it were hard bound as I believe i will wear the paperback out quickly. If you are a Deacon Postulant or newly ordained deacon this might be a help to you- Only reason for four stars was it is paperback not harboundMike
